What Car is Right for Me
In the last decade, there has been a significant evolution in the automobile technology. This has in turn led to a wide range of car manufacturers coming up with a variety of cars and vehicles. Each class of cars has a certain set of features aimed at attracting a particular group of customers. When it comes to buying, you most importantly need to match your requirements with cars available in the automobile market. The following points will help match with the right options for the most suitable car.
Determining the Right Car
Type of Form Factor
The very first thing that you need to consider in buying a car is what the purpose of doing so is. Decide if you want the car to be used for everyday driving, touring and long drives, racing, or any other purpose. There are many categories of cars that you can choose from such as small cars, mid-sized cars, full-size cars, sports cars, grand tourers, luxury cars, supercars, and so on. Every car has its own advantages depending on its use. Small cars are suitable for one to two persons for city driving, whereas mid-size and full-size cars are suitable for family transport needs. Sports cars, luxury cars, and supercars are normally bought by wealthy car enthusiasts.
Car Price Range
After you have decided on the purpose of buying a car, you need to consider cost factors. Remember that the cost of the car you want to buy depends on several different factors such as the form factor, brand, engine capacity, etc. Along with the on-road purchase price, you also need to think about car insurance rates and periodic maintenance expenses. Normally, good standard cars start from a few thousand dollars and may even go up to millions for those for luxury and sports purposes.
Type of Drive and Amount of Power
Other crucial factors are technical specifications like the drive type and amount of engine power. You will find cars with front, rear, or four wheel drive technology. If you want to use your car in normal road and weather conditions, those with front or rear wheel drives are suitable. But if you want to go on touring and terrain roads, it is better you go in for four wheel drive cars, also sometimes referred to as all wheel drive cars. In these 4x4 cars, the engine has control over all wheels for better traction, stability, and power. Coming to the amount of power, standard cars usually have a power of about 120 to 320 hp for high-end models and an engine capacity of 2.0 liters to 3.0 liters. Sports and supercars normally have an engine of between 3.0 to 8.0 liters, which produce a substantial amount of power.
Fuel Options
The fuel option also matters a lot in purchasing a car. There are cars which run on gasoline, diesel, and even hybrid technology. The fuel economy in diesel cars is better than gasoline cars. However, if you want the best mileage, you can choose a hybrid car. There are many different hybrid cars available in showrooms; such as Toyota Prius, Honda Insight, Lexus HS 250h, Honda Civic Hybrid, Nissan Altima Hybrid, Ford Fusion Hybrid, Toyota Camry Hybrid, etc. Few of these cars are also available in diesel and gasoline variants. Note that hybrid vehicles give more mileage on city roads than on highways.
Brand and Model
Some car buyers might be particular about a reputed car brand. There is a big list of good car manufacturers including Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Ford, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Chevrolet, Volvo, Volkswagen, Subaru, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, and others. Cars from all these brands differ in cost, technology, and fuel consumption. For example, Mercedes-Benz produces one of the best luxury and most expensive cars, whereas Ford and Honda have inexpensive options.
Note that this is just a basic guide to buying the right car. Those wondering about the right car should do a thorough research about all aspects such as the technicalities, form factor, brand, fuel economy, on-road price, and car insurance cost. This will surely help narrow down the choices from an ocean of car types.
