Recipes to Make Your Own Lip Balm
Lip balms are used a lot during winter, by both men and women, for relief from chapped lips. Many women (and some men) use lip balms everyday to keep their lips moisturized. Use of lip balms before applying a coat of lipstick protects the lips from darkening due to continuous use of lipstick. (Believe me, it works!) This article will provide some recipes to make lip balm at home.
Before we look at the recipe for lip balm, let us look at the lip balm ingredients. Beeswax, carrier oil like sunflower or jojoba or coconut oil and essential oils are the common ingredients. You can add vitamin E capsules in your lip balm to increase its shelf life. Also vitamin E helps heal chapped lips. Following are some recipes that will help you in making it quickly. It is also not expensive to make a lip balm.

For a fruity flavor, you can use essential oils like orange and lemon. You can add the respective food colors to match the flavor. You can make herbal lip balms by using tea tree oil, camphor oil, mint oil and ginger oil depending on your liking. An important thing to remember is that add the essential oil just before transferring the balm into containers so that the oil does not evaporate. These variations will provide you with a variety of options of lip balms for your lip care. If you want to make tinted lip balm, add a small amount of your lipstick to it. Following is the recipe with petroleum jelly instead of beeswax.
Recipe 3
Ingredients
- 1/2 tbsp petroleum jelly
- Food flavoring (depending on how much flavor you want)
- Some water
- Heat the petroleum jelly in a microwave for 10 seconds.

- Heat this mixture for about 15 seconds in the microwave.
- Add some water to it.
- Microwave again for about 10 seconds and allow it to cool.
- Transfer it in lip balm tubes.
When girls reach the age of 12, they want to start wearing makeup. Buying makeup and using it is not an option for them. If they learn to make lip balm at home, they can wear it and at the same time protect their tender lips from the harsh chemicals. You can gift them a kit which contains lip balm base, colors and flavors, tins or jars or pots for storage, stickers and labels and instructions for making the lip balm. This kit is priced from $10 to $25. So keep them busy and let them create the best lip balms. You can teach your kids how to make homemade lip balms, under your guidance.
Use different flavors, colors and variations to create your own recipe. Next time you have a get together at home, gift these to your friends and let them admire your handiwork. These balms also make perfect birthday return gifts for teenage girls. Enjoy experimenting!
