Then if it is your real good buddy and the ringtone is not one you frequently get to hear, then you tell your friend to hang up, right? This is a very common scenario, isn't it? But hey, you too can have your favorite song as a ringtone. All you need is music and your phone. Ringtones are great add-ons to have in your phone. Further, trust me it is not at all a tough task. In fact it is almost a cake walk.

How to Make Your own Ringtones for Free

A few easy steps and you would be all raring to flaunt your ringtone. You would not have to envy others who have a rocking ringtone!

Tone 1
Check out the voice recorder application on your cell phone. It is mostly there in all the cell phones, still confirm once. This is mostly for Nokia, but this can be done in a similar manner for other mobile phones as well.

Tone 2
Go to the voice recorder before you get to the download of the ringtone, Do not start before the ringtone starts.

Tone 3
Now play the song with the help of CD, computer or the MP3 player. Of course it has to be the one which you want as ringtone to make your own ringtone.

Tone 4
Once you are ready to put the song on, hold the cell phone as close as possible to the source of music. Start recording by pressing the record button on your phone.

Tone 5
The previous step will help the phone record the song. Keep the volume reasonably loud, which will help the phone record the song properly. If this is not done ring tone will turn out to be a damp squib.

Stop recording once you get the desired song and its desired portion. Then you go the recordings list, choose the one you recorded. You will have options regarding that recording. Select use as tone from those options. Then choose 'set as ringtone'. That's it! Wasn't it easy?

Make Your Own Ringtones for iPhone

To make your ringtone for iPhone, we take it for granted that you have itunes. So the steps are the same till you pick the song and the part of the song you want from the itunes. Here is what you will have to do after that.

Tune 1
Now, jot down the start and stop times of the clip you selected. Then right-click the song and pick 'Get Info'. Follow that up by clicking on options tab.

Taking ahead from the last step, Pick the 'Options' tab and then feed in the start time of your ringtone in the text box in the minutes:seconds (i.e., 2:01) format in the space given to put in the start time. Do the same thing with the stop time. Make sure your ringtone is not more than 40 seconds in duration.
