Retail store managers are very important personnel in the chain of retail companies. Their primary responsibility is to look after the product sales in stores and try to increase customer services and satisfaction. Job Description
The manager is responsible for overseeing the complete functioning of the store; keeping in mind the company goals, policies, and regulations. He has to make sure that there is a proper inflow and outflow of products in the inventory. He has to take essential steps in increasing sales and profits, without compromising on the quality of the products and the cost of operation. A store manager has to address to the complaints and suggestions of customers. Recruiting and providing employee training are other necessary duties that he has to perform. He has to supervise the works of his subordinates who normally are shift leads and assistant managers. A retail manager has to plan and execute discount programs and events for the store.
Salary Range
If you are a fresher or one with less than a year's experience, you are most likely to get a starting per annum pay of $28,000 to $40,000. For those with a work experience of one to four years, the pay range increases from $29,500 to $42,000 yearly. The salary range can rise from $33,500 to $49,500 if you possess an experience of five to nine years in the retail industry. The pay package with a good 10 to 19 years in the industry can be around $37,000 to $56,500 annually. Professionals with over 20 years of experience can be eligible for a remuneration of up to $64,500.
The salary also depends on the state you reside. In the states of California and New York the annual pay ranges from $39,000 to $60,000; and $36,500 to $58,000 respectively. Florida and Illinois have a similar pay range of about $33,500 to $53,000. Likewise, both Pennsylvania and Texas have a pay scale of $33,000 to $51,000. Ohio is considered the lowest paying state, with the salary scaling from $31,500 to $48,000.
Coming to the city wise classification of the salary; New York City and Chicago are estimated to have the highest pay of $42,500 to $65,000 and $38,000 to $61,000 respectively. These two cities are then followed by Los Angeles with a salary ranging from $40,000 to $59,500. Cities such as Atlanta, Dallas, and Orlando have a similar range of approximately $35,500 to $56,000 per annum.
There are other determinants of the salary as well, one of which is the type of retail chain. In the clothing line, the salary ranges from $34,000 to $50,000 annually; whereas in the pharmacy industry the range is slightly more from $44,000 to $60,000. The salary ranges for job as a retail store manager mentioned in the article are not exact but approximate, and may differ as per the financial situation and most importantly, the employer.
