Parking Lot Cleaning Business
The number of buildings is increasing, so are the businesses which are responsible for their maintenance. Using a parking lot to park cars is an everyday activity, and we all know what bad state parking lots are in. But have you ever wondered who is responsible for their cleaning and maintenance? Commercial parking lot cleaners are needed for looking after their cleanliness.
These businesses include small groups of people who are professionals, and are hired to clean and carry out maintenance activities in parking lots. These people are generally required to work in night shifts as there are less number of automobiles in the parking lots. Nighttime is more suitable for them to clean and remove stains from the floor and walls, and dump the dirt and waste materials into appropriate waste deposition facilities. Their job includes a lot of physical exertion.
Only those businesses which are on a contract with the municipal corporation are allowed to keep all their cleaning equipment on the site on a regular basis. This enables the owner to save on fuel costs and the time spent for traveling. As all cleaning equipment is secured on site, the operations manager is able is monitor the activities. This prevents the possibility of work delay in case of equipment malfunction, and the need for transporting a substitute for the malfunctioned equipment from other sites.
Due to parking lots' continuous use, they should be swept everyday, and all waste should be disposed off in a proper manner. The fee for parking lot cleaning may differ from place to place. Normally, parking lot cleaning businesses have a per hour rate of around $80-$100 for providing general sweeping services. All such businesses are required to obtain permits and performance bonds which may differ from state to state.
How to Start a Parking Lot Cleaning Business
You may start this business just to supplement you current income. You first need to decide on what type of sweeper or cleaning equipment you would require. You can even purchase a used slide-in equipment if you own a pick-up truck. If you have adequate finance, you may buy a used sweeper, or take it on lease. Complete all the licensing formalities as per the requirement of the state or city law.
Conduct a general survey regarding the per hour and contract costs of some local cleaning businesses, and then fix your fees. You would also need to purchase magnetic advertising signs for placing them on your work vehicle. Visit local malls, grocery stores, departmental stores, restaurants and other businesses to find work. You may even offer some free service if you get the contract. Try to make as many contacts as possible with the administrative management of buildings and complexes.
As there are no tough contenders in the this business, there is a possibility to earn a respectable amount of money over time. However, you need to work really hard for being successful.
