How to Make Your Own Hairspray
A hairspray is used on hair after styling is done so that the hairstyle remains intact for a long time. When we go for parties, business meetings or any other social event, we want to look good and presentable and the contribution of a hairstyle is huge in giving us that perfect look. At such instances, we tend to use hair sprays to look our best as long as we are in the public eye. Hair sprays available in the market contain chemical ingredients to create that extra hold on hair. Frequent use of such sprays cause a lot of harm to natural hair texture which tends to become dull and fragile. Moreover, reputed brands of these sprays are fairly expensive and not suitable for everybody's pockets. An easy alternative to a marketed product is a homemade hairspray.
Hair sprays are easy to make at home. All you need is some time and a few natural ingredients to start off! The use of natural ingredients makes the product safe and easily removable thus, avoiding the chances of chemical buildup which turns the hair dull and difficult to manage. Many people wonder how to make hairspray at home so that they can save a lot of money yet, look their best. Given below are a few homemade hairspray recipes you can choose from.
Recipe 1 - Lemon Hairspray
Ingredients
- Lemon - 1
- Isopropyl alcohol - 1 teaspoon
- Water - 2 cups
Take a lemon cut into four slices along with 2 cups of water in a bowl and place it on fire. Let the mixture come to a boil and reduce to half the quantity. Let it cool for sometime and add a teaspoon of isopropyl alcohol or rubbing alcohol in it. Strain the liquid using a cheesecloth to remove lemon pieces and other debris. Fill the mixture in a spray bottle and there you have your hairspray ready! Store the spray in a refrigerator to prevent from spoilage and use it whenever necessary.
Recipe 2 - Orange Hairspray
Ingredients
- Orange - 1
- Water - 2 cups
- Lavender oil - 2 drops
This hairspray is best suited for people with dry hair. Cut the orange into wedges and put them into 2 cups of boiling water. Let the water reduce to half the original quantity before getting it off the flame. Let the mix cool down. Strain and add 2 drops of lavender oil in the mixture. Fill the mixture in a fine spray bottle and store it under refrigeration. Once made, use this hairspray within a week for proper styling.
Recipe 3 - Sugar Water Hairspray
Ingredients
- Sugar - 4 teaspoons
- Water - 1 cup
- Rosemary oil - 2 drops
Take one cup of water and bring it to a boil. Turn off the heat and add 4 teaspoons of sugar. Stir continuously to dissolve it completely. When the sugar-water mixture has cooled down, add 2 drops of rosemary oil for imparting a little scent. Always remember to add oils after the mixture has cooled down completely so that, the scent is retained in the liquid. Fill the mixture in a bottle having a mist spray. Apply the spray on hair and wait for around 30 seconds before second application. Make sure not to run your fingers on the hair after the application of spray because it would spoil its effect.
Recipe 4 - Flax Seed Hairspray
Ingredients
- Flax seeds - 2 tablespoons
- Aloe vera gel - 2 tablespoons
- Glycerin - 1 teaspoon
- Purified Water - 2 cups
Boil flax seeds along with 2 cups of water and wait until the mixture is reduced to half. The mixture becomes a bit sticky due to flax seeds. Let the mixture cool and strain in a spray bottle. Add the mentioned quantity of aloe vera gel and glycerin in the mixture and shake it vigorously. Add purified water if the mixture appears too thick. Store the prepared hairspray in the fridge and use when required.
