Hairstyles for Men with Thinning Hair
Hair thinning is a common problem among men and women, though bald spots are basically confined to men. Though a lot of hair products are available for reversing and curing this problem, only a handful have benefited from them. So, if nothing is working to prevent hair thinning, then it is better to accept and embrace the truth and find out a haircut, that can conceal or minimize the appearance of the thinner areas.
In general, the appearance of bald spots or a receding hairline can be minimized by keeping the hair short. It helps create the illusion of having more hair. There are a number of haircut styles and ideas for men, to make a receding hairline less noticeable. With these hairstyles, people with thin hair can easily get a smarter and confident look.
Hairstyles for Thinning Hair
Short hairstyles for men always work well to conceal the bald spots and thinner areas, by making the hair look thicker. Therefore, close-cropped hairstyles are great for hiding bald spots. Longer hairstyles can also look good in the early stages of hair thinning, especially if it is taking place on the sides, leaving the hair on the top and back unaffected, in which case, long hair will cover up the thinning sides.
Buzz Cut
A stylish, but low maintenance hairstyle, that can minimize the appearance of thinning hair on the crown, is buzz cut. To create this hairstyle, hair is cut to a very short, but uniform length. This hairstyle can make thin or bald spots on the crown almost imperceptible.
Crew Cut
This hairstyle works well for a receding hairline at the temples or the crown. Besides being a timelessly stylish hairstyle, crew cut can minimize the appearance of thinning hair by blending the thinner areas with the rest. This style suits men of almost all age groups and any face shape. This hairstyle is created by cutting the hair on the sides short, while keeping the hair on the top slightly longer.
Caesar Cut
This hairstyle features shorter hair on the sides, back, and top of the head, but relatively longer bangs in front. In general, all the hair except the bangs, are cut to a length of about 1 to 3 inches. The bangs are created at the front, and these can be as short as to just touch the forehead of the wearer. The hair is then brushed forward with an upward push. Caesar cut is quite popular among men having a receding hairline.
Faux Hawk
Faux hawk is a variation of mohawk hairstyle, but not as drastic as the original mohawk hairstyle. This hairstyle works well for men having thinning hair around the temples. Unlike mohawk hairstyle, the sides of the head are not shaved. This hairstyle simply creates a small, but noticeable spike in the middle, while keeping the hair on the sides short, which helps divert attention from hair loss.
Short, Messy and Spiky
This is another trendy hairstyle that men with thin hair can sport. This hairstyle is suitable for hair loss near the temples, as it requires the hair on the sides and back to be kept short. The length of the hair is then gradually increased towards the top. The hair on the top is then tousled and a messy spike is created, by using a texturing gel.
Wavy Messy Hairstyles
Wavy hairstyles can create volume and hide those areas of the head, where hair is less. Wavy hairstyles with longer bangs in the front, can cover not only the thinner areas, but also hide a widow's peak. These hairstyles are good for men having naturally wavy or curly hair.
Shaggy Layers
This hairstyle is good for those who are in the early stages of hair thinning. Shaggy layers can be created by keeping the front hair long, and cutting it in uneven layers, letting it fall on the forehead. For the other areas, hair is cut at medium-length. This hairstyle basically creates a messy and disheveled look, to hide the areas having less hair.
Long Layered Hairstyles
Men who like to sport long hair, can opt for long layered hairstyles, which help create volume in thin hair. You can go for bangs and combine it with different lengths of hair, so that the overlapping layers can hide the thinner areas.
While choosing a particular haircut, several factors other than hair thinning and bald spots, are required to be taken into account. Such factors include, the shape of your face and head, hair type, etc. You can also consider the option of going bald, if all the other hairstyles fail to give you the desired look. Going completely bald is nowadays considered quite trendy and fashionable. Coloring hair with proper lowlights is another effective way to draw attention away from your thinning hair, by putting more emphasis on the style. Hair products like, volumizing shampoos and conditioners, and the right type of pomade, serum, and gels, can also help add volume to your hair and keep your hair in place to conceal the thinning areas. Otherwise, a visit to a professional hairstylist can give you a wide range of options.
