Cleaning boxing gloves is very easy, provided you have the things that are required, and lots and lots of time. You need a lot of time for them to dry up, as they are quite thick and need to dry up thoroughly, so that even the slightest of moisture isn't there within the gloves. You can't afford to miss even the slightest of dampness, as it is more than enough to boost the growth of germs again. Mentioned below are the step-by-step instructions on how to wash boxing gloves. Have a look.
Different Ways for Cleaning Boxing Gloves
Now, there are different ways of cleaning boxing gloves, which is good thing, because then you get to choose the method which seems more convenient for you. These methods involve using the products that are available in the market specifically for this purpose, and some traditional home based techniques, that can help kill the germs present inside the gloves and clean them completely.
Materials Required:
- Antibacterial spray like Febreze
- Plastic bag
- Newspapers
- Glove deodorant
- Freezer
- Fan
Method 1
- Put the gloves in a plastic bag and seal them.
- Take the sealed pack and keep it inside the freezer for at least an entire night. If the condition of your boxing gloves is really bad, then keep them for a day or two.
- Be careful if you are dealing with leather boxing gloves, as they can get damaged by freezing them too much.
- After a day or two, take the gloves out and let them dry till they are completely moisture free. This might take a lot of time. You can also use a fan to dry them up quickly.
Method 2
- Get a bottle of Febreze and thoroughly spray it (as per instructions) on the gloves.
- When it comes to cleaning smelly gloves, antibacterial sprays like Febreze helps killing the germs within the gloves and prevents foul odor made by the growth of bacteria.
- It is very important to let the gloves dry thoroughly later on, either naturally or with the help of a fan.
- Using a glove deodorant would also help keep the gloves away from odor and also prevent bacterial growth.
Additional Tips
- Avoid keeping your boxing gloves inside the gym bag after use. Instead, keep them separately, where they can dry completely from the sweat and perspiration.
- When you are not using the gloves, keeping rolls of newspaper also helps as they end up soaking moisture from the gloves. Remember not to use the same newspaper again and again.
- Use a damp cloth to wipe your boxing gloves from the outside. In case it is leather, go for products that are specially designed to clean leather gloves.
The aforementioned tips may seem to be quite time-consuming (especially when it comes to the drying part). If you own a pair of boxing gloves that you are attached to, or may be they are lucky for you, then these tips will definitely help you use them for a longer period of time, without you having to resent the effect that they have on your sense of smell. Yes, but if you want to kill your opponent with the smell of it, then that's a different story! After all, everything's fair in love and war, right?
