Simulated Diamond Rings
"Diamonds are a girl's best friend," sang Marilyn Monroe and who can disagree. After all, there is a captivating quality about this precious stone which is formed from compressed carbon treated by geological processes over thousands of years. It is no wonder then that the demand for diamonds far exceeds the supply. Researchers have therefore come up with alternatives to create gemstones which work in place of naturally existing diamonds. Today there is a huge market that has opened up for these synthetic diamonds, not only because they are cheaper than real diamonds but also because most of them are as beautiful as the naturally occurring variety. Therefore you have a wide range of cheap simulated diamond rings, earrings, necklaces, etc.
Lab created diamonds were first made in the year 1954 by General Electric which successfully managed to compress carbon under pressure that equaled 400 tons to create diamonds. While earlier, it was possible for jewelers to figure out the differences between simulated diamonds vs real diamonds by examining them, today with more advanced technologies, it is becoming practically impossible to differentiate between simulated and real diamonds. This is probably the most important reason for the use of synthetic diamonds to make diamond jewelry like simulated diamond rings.
Types of Simulated Diamonds
When you walk into a jeweler's shop and ask to buy lab created diamond rings, do you wonder about the different kinds of simulated diamonds that are available? There are many different varieties of synthetic diamonds that are used to make jewelry like simulated diamond engagement rings which mimic the many qualities of naturally found diamonds. Synthetic rutile is made from pure titanium oxide and has a very high refractive index which is a quality that is shared by real diamonds. The plus point of using synthetic rutile is that, such diamonds are available in a variety of colors.
Another option that is widely heard of is cubic zirconia which emulates characteristics of diamonds, like its hardness and refractive index. In fact, due to a structure that is generally without any faults, cubic zirconia is perfect for making simulated diamond wedding rings. A third option that is a popular raw material for making simulated diamond rings is Yttrium Aluminum Garnet or YAG. The only problem with YAG is, that it has a comparatively low refractive index, especially after it is polished.
Simulated Diamond Rings
So what is the reason that so many people opt for simulated diamond rings? Well, the cost factor is one of the determining reasons for people preferring gold, silver, and white gold with simulated diamond rings. Also, it is important to remember that most of these synthetically created diamonds have the same appearance as natural diamonds. While purists may argue that there is something fake about it, the fact remains that even diamonds that are naturally found are actually treated in labs to enhance their appearance.
Choosing simulated diamond rings, especially Russian simulated diamond rings, will also allow you to opt for a stone that is devoid of any of the imperfection that may come with naturally occurring diamonds where its color and quality is concerned. Synthetic diamond rings, since they are made under controlled conditions, have minimal faults, if any. Also, with the increasing popularity of simulated diamonds, jewelers are experimenting with the settings for these rings. In fact, some of the best simulated diamond rings could give even the most expensive diamond a run for its money. Also, in many ways, the trade in simulated diamonds has had a huge effect on the phenomenon of blood diamonds, so if you have any moral qualms about buying a real diamond ring, opt for these simulated diamond rings and flaunt them on your finger.
