DIY Treadmill Desk
All of us want to have a fit and healthy body, but unfortunately our long working hours, leave us very little time to workout. Many office goers have an extremely sedentary lifestyle, where they are tied to their desk. So, wouldn't it be simply superb to be able to do workout at your desk. A treadmill desk is such an innovative concept that combines a regular treadmill with a work desk or a computer desk. A treadmill desk has received a lot of acceptance by people and there are many people who actually like and use a treadmill desk. It involves slowly walking on a treadmill while doing work. It is a great way for sedentary desk based workers to get some exercise instead of sitting all day in a chair. Although there are many different designs and styles of treadmill desks available in the market, it is easy to make a treadmill desk.
Making your Own Treadmill Desk
Many people think that it is impossible to get any work done like typing on the computer or moving the mouse while walking on the treadmill. But the fact is on a treadmill desk a person walks very slowly on the treadmill and the typical speed is 1 to 2 Mph. At this speed, a person can comfortably do his work while walking. For the DIY treadmill desk, you will first need to have a wooden shelf as well as an exercise equipment which is a working treadmill. While making the treadmill desk, you need to keep in mind that the shape and size of the wooden shelf is such that it fits properly over the top of the treadmill. The wooden shelf should be ideally made of a light wood or plywood or there is a danger that the treadmill might not be able to take the weight of the shelf and might topple. Now we proceed to make the desk.
Things Required
- Saw
- Screwdriver
- Measuring tape
- Drill
- Wood shelf
- Wood screws
Measure the wooden shelf and then measure the width of the treadmill with the tape. With the help of the saw, cut the wooden shelf in such a way that it is exactly the width of the treadmill. Make sure that the width of the wooden shelf is large enough to accommodate your table supplies such as desktop or laptop, but small enough so that there is room for you to stand on the treadmill. Drill holes into the wooden shelf as well as the arm of the treadmill with the pencil drill.
Place the wooden shelf over the arms of treadmill and align the drilled holes so that you are able to insert the wooden screws. Make sure that the wooden screws are secure by tightening them with a screwdriver. Once this is done, try to move the wooden shelf a little from its position. If it refuses to budge, then your DIY treadmill project is complete. A bit of finishing done by using a sandpaper over the edges of the new desk will ensure that it looks great too. Now place your work things on this makeshift desk and get ready to walk and work.
Treadmill desks are a great way to get some exercise while doing your office work. The DIY desk costs much less than the store bought variety and is very easy to make too. If however, you decide to buy a treadmill desk from a store, make sure that you read some treadmill desk reviews, before making a purchase.
