Digital Camera Buying Guide
Digital photography involves taking pictures or images, using digital technology. This makes the process of taking, storing, modifying, transferring and printing of images a lot easier. Digital cameras have completely overshadowed film cameras, owing to the numerous advantages they have over their film counterparts. But there is a tough competition among the digital cameras as well. With so many options to choose from, an average buyer is bound to get confused, when it comes to choosing a digital camera. Words like mega pixels and optical zoom are somewhat difficult for a person sans technical knowledge to interpret. At such a point of time a good digital camera buying guide can be of great help.
Digital Camera Buyer Guide
A good digital camera guide to buy digital camera or its accessories will always stress on the basics of digital photography. These basics include mega pixels, zoom, battery life, exposure settings, etc. Let's look at each of these aspects separately.
Mega Pixels
One common myth that people follow in photography these days is, 'more mega pixel, better photograph. It is wrongly assumed so, as high mega pixels are only required when you plan to get huge printouts of your pictures. If you plan to pursue photography as a hobby or just to capture some subtle moments of your life, then any camera up to 5 mega pixel is an ideal choice for you. But if you want to pursue a career as a professional photographer, you should opt for something between 8 to 12 mega pixel camera.
Optical Zoom
When it comes to the zoom feature in your camera, you have two options - optical zoom and digital zoom. In digital cameras with optical zoom the camera lens are moved physically, while in digital cameras with digital zoom a microchip is used to magnify the image. Normally, optical zoom is considered to be better than its digital counterpart. A camera with 4x zoom is considered to be an ideal camera, for amateur photography enthusiasts.
Battery Life
When buying a digital camera people most often tend to ignore this component of the camera. The last thing that you would like to experience is a situation, wherein you are about to capture one of the most memorable moment of your life, and you end up getting a signal saying low battery. Low battery can also hamper the image quality of the pictures you click. A camera with a high price tag, need not necessarily have a good battery life. A couple of reasonably priced cameras, have better battery life than the ones with high price tags.
Exposure Settings
When buying a digital camera, always opt for one that features easy to use exposure settings. Shutter speeds and lens opening are important aspects of the digital camera. A digital camera with good exposure control, can help you to take good quality pictures of moving objects as well. You will also have to brush up your basic photography skills to use the exposure settings properly.
More importantly the camera you choose should be user-friendly. Components such as macro mode and flash should be easy to use. And last but the most important aspect is to be patient. You can't become an ace photographer overnight. For that you will have to learn digital photography basics and understand your digital camera inside out. As far as handling the digital camera like a professional is concerned, you will become well versed with it over a period of time. As for the beginning you can start by using this digital camera buying guide to own a good quality digital camera.
