How to Make Nachos


Nachos are an integral part of American cuisine (like many Mexican foods), that are scaling the popularity charts the world over. A must at all casual parties, one cannot imagine a super bowl gathering without cheese nachos and dip. These crisp corn chips are great by themselves, better with cheese/dip, and very filling when piled with beans, ground beef and jalapeno peppers. While most people use store bought tortilla chips, you can make your own if you wish to. Before you get started making nachos, collect all your ingredients. Then follow the instructions and wow your guests with this delicious treat.

Making Nachos in the Oven
Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup grated tasty cheese
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 230g packet corn chips
  • 500g chopped beef
  • cup coriander leaves, chopped
  • 300g can kidney beans, drained, rinsed
  • cup water
  • 1 tsp Mexican chili powder
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 35g sachet reduced-salt taco seasoning mix
  • cup tomato salsa, mashed avocado and sour cream, to serve

If you want to know the recipe of nachos with meat, this is how it's done. Preheat the oven to 350F. Pour a little oil in a non-stick frying pan, and place it over medium heat. Add onions and cook for 2 minutes, or until translucent. Then add the chopped beef, stir and cook for 5 minutes or until browned. Toss in the kidney beans, seasoning, chili powder, tomato paste and water. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 5 minutes, or until you have a thick gravy. Toss in coriander and remove from heat. Place the corn chips on a heatproof plate, and spoon chopped beef onto it. Sprinkle on grated cheese and bake for 15 minutes. Add layers of salsa, avocado and sour cream. Serve.

Cheese Nacho Recipe
Ingredients
  • 1 can refried beans
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1 large bag white corn tortilla chips
  • 1 cup green onion, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded pepper jack
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar
  • 1 jalapeno, sliced crosswise, plus extra for garnish
  • 1 can chili, or your favorite chili recipe
Directions

Preheat the oven to 350F. Cook refried beans in a small saucepan over low heat, until they are loose. Lay out the tortilla chips on a large ovenproof platter, and add a teaspoon of the refried beans on each chip. Then sprinkle the chips with onions, jack cheese, and jalapeno slices. Add a layer of chili and then Cheddar. You can keep adding these layers until all the ingredients are used up, however, set aside some jalapeno slices as garnish. Transfer the nachos to the oven and bake until the cheese melts (5-10 minutes). Take out of oven, coat with sour cream, green onions, diced tomato and jalapeno slices and serve.

Recipe for Nacho Dip
Ingredients
  • 1 can (4 ounces) chopped green chilies
  • cup chopped onion
  • cup chopped fresh tomato
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup (4 ounces) shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cups (6 ounces) cubed process American cheese (Velveeta)
  • cup milk
  • Tortilla chips
Directions

Mix together the chilies, onion and butter in a 1 qt. microwave-safe dish. Cover and microwave on high for 45 seconds. Take out of the microwave and stir in flour, until smooth. Drizzle in the milk, and stir so it combines. Microwave on high for 30-60 seconds or until it thickens, this time uncovered. Mix in cheeses and tomato. Put back into the microwave and cook uncovered at 70% power for 1 to 2 minutes or until the cheese has melted. Serve with tortilla chips.
