How to Write a Book Report
Considering the teacher's view, the aim of a book report is to examine the student's knowledge, the grasping power and their ability to write about their knowledge. Generally, the students are asked to write a book report in order to enhance the knowledge about a topic and it will help them to know more about the book.
Usually, book reports are used to attract the readers so that they can buy a book that is released recently. It is known as book review. Generally, the report will include the writer's viewpoint, belief and analysis of the book. Journalist often has a tendency to evaluate the book on the basis of the book report. This will help the readers to get some ideas about the book and they can also decide whether or not to buy the book.
A book report will include the introduction; the body may include the summary of the book, however the last paragraph might have the conclusion of the subject area. The length of the report will differ on the basis of targeted age group. Usually, the length of a book report will vary from one to four pages.
If you want to write a book report then you need proper planning, extensive knowledge and good writing skills. The amount of the time that is required to write a book report will depend upon the length and subject of the book and it will also depend upon the type of report as well. Usually, it will take seven to ten days, to prepare a book report. However, it will depend upon the requirement of the report.
While writing a book report you should keep in mind that it should represent the content and composition of the book. A book report is considered as a face of the book. It will provide the summary of the book. The main objective to write the report is to give detailed information about the book as it can attract the reader to buy the book.
Steps
1. Read the book in a systematic way. You should mark the pages that have important information.
2. You should collect all the important information of the book and keep them in mind while you write your book report.
3. You assume the interest of the reader, and think what they would like to know about this book?
4. Go through all the information that you have collected, and think if you can add or remove some information that is required.
5. Try to mention the most important point of the book such as the main reason of writing the book. You can write this as a part of the summary.
6. Write something about the subject of the book; it should be interesting.
Additional information
The book report should contain the name of the author, editor, and the title of the book, publisher of the book, the date of publication, and the number of pages. Try to write all this in a proper format, below the title of the report.
Provide the information about the author. The author's information should include the credentials for writing in this field.
Mention the something about the book. Try to write something that will inform the reader about the authors' point of view about the subject. If you are not able to get a statement that is written by the author then you will have to create a statement on you own, which should cover all the important material. Instead of statement, you can also write a brief paragraph.
The book report is mainly related to the content and its structure. It should also contain your view about this book. However, you should only write your view if it is required. Try to mention the importance of the content that is developed by the author. Write something about the purpose of the book. Show the amount of contribution that the book makes to the field. Write the main objective of the book. At the end, you may have to write whether you like the book or not.
