Making your own lip gloss will ensure that only the natural ingredients and colors, that are healthy and safe for use on the lips and also for ingestion, are being used. The ingredients to make lip gloss are easily available and are also inexpensive. The basic ingredients to make lip gloss, will usually remain the same, while only the color and flavor of the lip gloss will vary, depending upon the one you are making. Homemade Lip Gloss - Basic Ingredients
- teaspoon grated beeswax or paraffin wax
- 2 teaspoons oil (coconut oil, avocado oil, cocoa butter, vitamin E oil, castor oil, wheat germ oil, jojoba oil, sunflower oil or almond oil.) A combination of two or more oils can also be used.
- 1 teaspoon of honey
- 6 drops of lime juice or lemon essential oil
- 1 teaspoon of aloe vera juice (optional)
- Petroleum jelly (optional)
To obtain the desired color, you can add natural food colors, a lipstick of that particular shade or candy melts. Flavor can be added depending on the one that you want, like cranberries, honey, powdered drink mix, etc. If you want to make a plain sweet flavored lip gloss, simply add some liquid sweetener to the homemade lip gloss recipe. If you want a tinge of glitter in the lip gloss, you can add some eye glitter to the recipe.
Materials
- Small bowl
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Lip balm tubes or small tubs
- Grater
- Wax paper
- Zip lock bag
- Step 1: Grate some beeswax or paraffin wax, using a grater, onto the wax paper.
- Step 2: Using a measuring spoon, take teaspoon of the grated beeswax or paraffin wax, and put it into a zip lock bag.
- Step 3: Add to it, 2 teaspoons of oil or a combination of any of the oils. You can also add some petroleum jelly.
- Step 4: Add the coloring and flavoring ingredient to the mixture in the zip lock bag, and seal the bag.
- Step 5: Place it in a bowl of hot water for 3-5 minutes, or place it in a microwave for 2 minutes. Once the wax and other ingredients have melted, blend all the ingredients together in the bag.
- Step 6: Make a small slit in the zip lock bag and empty the mixture into the lip balm tubes or tubs.
