Gift Wrapping Tips

The art of gift wrapping is not an inborn one, but more a confluence of a few simple techniques and some creative ideas. The primary aspect of any kind of gift wrapping is a neatly wrapped gift. Further beautification can be done with the help of ribbons and embellishments. While wrapping a gift, the end of the paper that overlaps must always be at an edge of the gift, presuming it is a box. In addition, the two ends must be folded, taped and closed neatly. Tackle one side at a time and fold the excess of paper inwards, one side at a time. In the end you will be left with one V shaped flap, which you should fold and tape down the opposite edge. Now that you have a neatly wrapped gift, here are some tips and tricks for gift wrapping that you can use to beautify it.

Creative Gift Wrapping Ideas

All that goes into an attractive gift wrapping is some pretty wrapping paper and ribbons to tie around the gift. Always ensure you have a stock of these. A simple idea is to wrap the gifts with silver tissue paper, over which you can tie a contrasting broad ribbon. Ideally use one with a print as the paper is plain. You could also use a single colored broad ribbon and run a thin contrast colored ribbon down the center of it for a striking effect. You can also punch holes in a paper ribbon for a quirky effect. For an extra flourish, wrap some doily paper around the gift.

As a bottle of wine is one of the most common gifts to take with you, it's time to come up with creative ways of wrapping it. One beautiful presentation is to wrap the wine in a couple of layers of pink tissue paper. As usual, fold the paper at the base and tape it down. Tie some thread over the tissue around the neck of the bottle. Now use your ingenuity to make the excess paper around the mouth of the bottle look like a paper rose. Run a broad green ribbon around the neck of the bottle and fashion it into a bow. A very different look is to wrap a bottle of wine in a pretty dish towel, and run a rope or ribbon around the neck. Another way to carry a bottle is in a mailing tube dressed up with paper and ribbon.

Among the easy gift wrapping ideas is embellishments, which one can string along ribbon and tie onto the gift, or even stick it on. My favorite ideas include a bell or pine cone for Christmas gift, or a shell for someone who loves the ocean. A way to combine a gift and a bouquet is to attach a fresh-cut peony, a dahlias or gerbera daisy to the gift. Use a light single colored wrapping paper, and match the color of the ribbon to that of the flower. If fresh flowers aren't an option, use a sprig of dried flowers. I love all those ideas that allow you to personalize a gift. One idea that has a rustic appeal is to attach wooden tags with stick-on letters that form the persons name. Other really sweet gift tags are, believe it or not, paint chips! You can also cut out illustrations from old cards to make some frugal but pretty tags.

Candy bars are another very popular gift all year round. An idea I like is to take off the original paper wrapping of the candy bar and wrap it with pretty paper instead. You can use seasonal gift wrap, art paper, ribbon, and twill tape to dress up your chocolate gift boxes, so the recipient will continue to use them much after the chocolates have disappeared.

One of the most important gift wrapping tips is to remember that beauty is often in simplicity. Use contrasting but not clashing colors, and just a strip of print is often the way to go. To create a striking modern look, wrap gifts in white paper and tie them with black ribbon. Embellish with a single white rose.
