Eau de Cologne
Eau de Cologne perfume was first launched in a city called Cologne in Germany in 1709. Giovanni Maria Farina was its inventor. Both men and women use this luxury product. Eau de Cologne consists of oils of many fruits like lime, tangerine, orange and lemon along with 85% dilute ethanol. The concentration of oil in this perfume is only 5%. Napoleon was very fond of this perfume. This perfume celebrated its 300th birthday this year. These days, it is marketed under the name 4711. This perfume has a presence in 75 countries. An affluent industrialist family named Muehlens from Cologne sold their perfume business to German Wella corporation in 1994. Cosmetics major Procter and Gamble purchased the company in 2003 and they sold it to Maeurer and Wirtz in 2007. The price range for Eau de Cologne spray 2.5 is US$25 to US$80.

Eau de Toilette
The perfume concentration in Eau de Toilette is between 1-6%. The price for a 60ml Eau de Toilett spray is 17. This is a high-end perfume mostly preferred by celebrities and the affluent society.

Categories of Perfumes

Fragrance Notes in Perfumes
There are three fragrance notes in all perfumes-top note, middle note and the base note. The top note consists of small molecules which take very less time for evaporation. The top note creates a good impression in the minds of people due to its freshness. It is noticed for around ten minutes. In the middle note, molecules need more time to evaporate than the top note. It contains the smell of flowers and lasts for about half an hour. It is also called heart note. In the base note, molecules take the longest time to evaporate. It takes 30 to 60 minutes for the base note to be felt. A perfume gets its characteristic smell with the combination of the middle note and base note.
