Hair Vitamins for Thinning Hair
We all know that a proper diet is one of the basic requirements for healthy functioning of the human body. Apart from promoting the health of the internal organs, a proper diet is also necessary for the maintaining the health of skin, hair and even nails. As far as hair is concerned, there are various issues, like thinning, dandruff, hair loss and baldness. There are many different causes for hair problems and nutritional deficiency is one among them. Thinning of hair is commonly found to be associated with a poor diet that is deficient in hair vitamins.
Hair Thinning and Diet
Hair thinning is one of the most common beauty problems confronted by the members of both sex. While women are more prone to develop hormonal changes (that may cause hair problems) during pregnancy and menopause, baldness (or male pattern baldness) is common among men. Other reasons for hair loss or hair thinning include use of harsh chemicals, intake of certain medications, poor hair care, diseases, age and genetics. Some people may face hair thinning for no apparent reason. Whatever it may be, the condition can be rectified to some extent, with a balanced diet, which provides the necessary nutrients for hair. Vitamins promote faster growth of each strand and enhance their tensile strength too.
Vitamins for Thinning Hair
As mentioned earlier, a proper diet with all necessary nutrients, plays an important role in hair care. If you take a look at the most essential nutrients for hair, protein (made of amino acids) comes first. While some of these amino acids are produced by the body itself, some are derived from food. Among the latter category, the most important amino acids for hair health are lysine, methionine, tyrosine, cystine and homocysteine. You can derive almost all of them from a protein-rich diet. Apart from protein, unrefined carbohydrates and good fats (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated ones) are also beneficial for hair growth.
The most important hair vitamins are B vitamins, vitamin C and vitamin E. All the B vitamins, like, thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), piroxidine (B6), folic acid (B9), cyanocobalamin (B12), and biotin, are beneficial for hair and are considered the most useful hair vitamins for thinning hair. Apart from making the hair strong, most of the B vitamins are found to enhance hair color too. Among them, folic acid, pantothenic acid and biotin are the most important ones. Folic acid promotes the production of new cells, which makes each strand healthier and thicker. While biotin is said to fight premature graying, niacin or vitamin B3 is said to improve scalp circulation, thereby promoting the health of hair.
Vitamin C, which has the responsibility of developing collagen in the body, in order to hold body tissues together, is also necessary for healthy hair. A deficiency of this vitamin leads to split ends in hair which inhibit hair growth. Vitamin E, as we all know, is important for skin care as well as hair care. This vitamin enhances blood circulation of the scalp and aids faster hair growth. Vitamin A also plays a key role in promoting the healthy growth of hair follicles and in preventing the hair from getting dry and brittle. All these hair vitamins jointly act to make your scalp healthy, prevent hair loss, premature graying and thinning. In order to get the maximum effects of these hair vitamins, you have to consume foods rich in them or else take vitamin supplements. But if you want to go for vitamin supplements, you must consult your doctor and proceed as per his/her advice. Remember that overdose of these hair vitamins may sometimes prove harmful and so, moderate use (as per the instructions of your doctor) is always advisable.
Minerals like copper, magnesium, zinc, iodine, sulfur and iron are also found to be useful for the health of hair. Apart from using the above said nutrients, there are various other factors that have to be taken care of, if you are concerned about your hair problems. Adopt a healthy lifestyle and a good exercise program. You must avoid smoking and excess alcohol intake. Drink at least eight glasses of water per day and have good sleep. Avoid use of hair care products with harsh chemicals and regular perming and teasing. Check whether you have any underlying medical condition which is responsible for hair thinning. Refrain from having junk food in large amounts. All these measures, along with a proper diet which includes hair vitamins for thinning hair, can help you make your hair healthier and thicker.
