AMD Phenom II Vs. Intel i7

If you're aware about the latest buzz in the field of computers you must know about the latest processors out there today. Before we move to the processors, let us know about world's two major processor manufacturing companies, which are AMD and Intel. Without any doubt, when it comes to Intel and AMD processor comparison, Intel is more popular and has high sales figures. The AMD Phenom II X6 is the latest processor of AMD and the Core i7 is the latest from Intel's factory. In this article, we will try to find out which one proves to be the best and the fastest.

AMD Phenom II X6

AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) is an American multinational company which manufactures computer processors and related computer peripherals. AMD has been around for a long time producing really good processors. Few of the most used AMD processors were AMD Athlon, AMD Sempron, and the latest being the AMD Phenom II. The new breed of AMD Phenom II processors are faster and meaner. These are multi-core processors which are best for advanced multitasking performance, are energy efficient and provide exceptional quality visuals.

So, what is Phenom II X6 made of. Well, it is AMD's first 6-core processor and it is an alternative for Intel's i7. It is a 45nm chip, with clock speeds of minimum 3.2 GHz and maximum 3.6GHz. Various tests has been carried out to check if it is any better than its predecessor which was AMD's four-core processor AMD Phenom II X4. It was found out that the new Phenom II X6 uses the same 6MB L3 Cache, just like the Phenom II X4. But then, since Phenom II X6 has got two additional cores it definitely makes a difference. And it was found out that the chip is definitely faster and efficient for multi-core/threads application.

Intel i7 Processor

Intel Corporation is also an American multinational company which are most famous for their world-class processors. Intel chipsets can be found in most of the personal computers. They produce most popular and most used computer processors. Intel was a hit since the beginning when it started selling few popular processors like Intel Pentium, Celeron, Dual Core, Core 2 Duo. And the latest being, Intel's iCore processors.

Intel has introduced its Core i3, i5 and i7 processors from the iCore series. The Core i7 is the fastest amongst them. It uses 8MB of Intel's Smart Cache, with 12MB from L3 Cache and it has got the capacity of processing 8 threads. There are many different versions of the Core i7 processors out in the market. It is among the best computer processors.

AMD Phenom II X6 Vs. Intel i7

Let us make a short comparison between AMD Phenom II and Intel i7. We now know what are the technical specifications of these two top processors. The Phenom II X6 uses 6MB of L3 Cache whereas the top version of Intel i7 970 uses 12MB, whereas other versions of i7 processor uses 8MB of L3 Cache. AMD has tried hard to get the best of the best from its stable and in fact it is, but then it doesn't overpower the strength of Intel's i7. Clearly it can be seen that Intel's i7 is a little more faster than its AMD counterpart.

The only place where AMD leaves behind Intel, is the price. Intel's i7 is faster and meaner but then it comes with a price too. It is priced at approx. $1000. Talking about AMD the Phenom II X6, it is priced at approx. $300. If your use is not extensive and extreme, I think it is wise to save on $700 which is a considerable amount, and get the AMD Phenom II X6 for that price. Of course, a little compromise is required over here, but then the compromise is not substantial.

To sum up, if we were to do a comparison between AMD Phenom II and Intel i7, statistically, Intel is most popular and most used. AMD products are great to use and relatively lesser expensive, but then still Intel products rule the market. It is not that there are no buyers of AMD, there are of course, but then their numbers are relatively less. However, gradually, we can see more acceptance of AMD today, because of their quality products at very economical prices. Cheers!
