So read a friend's mail to me about a decade ago. And I thought 'Hey, that's such a cool idea!'. Then I thought about the letters to my maternal grandad. I remembered squiggling hearts into the margin and filling it in with a deep red color, then bordering it with an arrow through and through. That back then was a really cool symbol to emote what you were feeling. But today...oh boy! That does not even cover the extent to which the keyboard symbols have gone on their journey. The smileys have gotten old, I'd say. They do exist and are used quite frequently, but there are so many other cool keyboard symbols and keyboard tricks now that you'd be spoiled for choice.

P.S. Use any of these keyboard shortcuts to make symbols (made really simple with the table above.) Make sure that you keep the 'Alt ' key pressed with the '+ ' key and the corresponding numbers. Use the numbers that are on the extreme right of the keyboard. If you're using these symbols from a laptop then follow the same keys 'Alt', '+', 'Fn' and the corresponding number. Make sure to press the Fn key or it won't work.
