Proper Wedding Attire

So, finally the much anticipated wedding of your friend is approaching and you are all set to go. You have already shopped for the gifts for the newlyweds and other such things. But wait a minute, did you even think what you are going to wear for the big day? Well, you should not take this task lightly because selecting a proper wedding outfit can be a real headache, especially when the invitation does not mention a dress code. However, if you look at the subtle hints in the invitation card itself, then you can easily decide what to wear at the wedding. So, here is an advice on what to wear at the wedding.

Proper Wedding Attire for Guests
The first step to deciding upon a wedding outfit is to get a close look at the invitation card itself. If it mentions the dress code as formal, semi formal or a theme, then your task is definitely simplified. Now all you need to do is, select an attire as per the dress code mentioned. However, if the invitation card doesn't mention anything, then you'll have to get the cues from the look of the invitation card itself. Is it printed on a heavy cream paper, in black ink and in formal language with a formal font type. If yes, then the wedding is probably a formal one as well, so perhaps you should take your jackets and tuxedos out of your closet. On the other hand, if the invitation is more colorful and in a flowery script, then relax and get ready for a casual affair. Similarly, it is equally important to consider the time of wedding, if it is during daytime or at evening.

Wedding Attire for Women
Again, you will have to consider several facts while selecting a proper wedding dress. Firstly, your relation with the bride or groom, then the dress code for the wedding and lastly the time of the ceremony. While selecting dresses for women, it is imperative to stay away from lacy outfits in white, which are reserved exclusively for the bride. You definitely don't want to overshadow the bride. However, you can always go for prints on the white background. If the occasion warrants formal dress code, you can go for business suits in light shades or short skirt and stylish blouse, during daytime. If the wedding is going to be an evening affair, then a cocktail dress or an evening gown is best suited for all formal occasions. For casual or informal weddings you can settle for flowery dresses with bold prints and slingback shoes. However, if the ceremony is going to take place outdoors, it is better to stay away from flowing fabrics which may make it difficult for you to preserve your modestly in wind! Also, avoid wearing high-heeled shoes that may sink in sand or grass.

Wedding Attire for Men
While selecting proper wedding dress for men, the same parameters apply here as well. If it is a typical summer wedding with formal dress code during day time, you can go for light colored suits in fabrics such as linen or seersucker. Avoid dark shades for suits, you sure don't want to look as though you are geared for a business meeting. Dress shirts, tie, pants are acceptable, but it would be wiser to put on your blazer as well. You may wear a sweater inside the blazer, if it's a winter wedding. Tuxedos are apt only for ultra formal evening weddings. If the wedding warrants casual or semi formal attire, you can combine blazer with slacks and a decent tie.

Proper wedding attire basically means dressing up aptly for the occasion. You should not upstage the bride and groom by overdoing it, but at the same time don't look like you are just back from a supermarket trip. Under dressing can prove to be a major faux pas. Thus, the trick is to know the requirement and dress accordingly.
