How to Grow Out Your Hair
The growth rate of the human hair is about 6 inches a year, which means that it grows an inch per month. The plain truth of the matter is that, it is impossible to have long hair within a few days or weeks. What you can do, is to ensure that you look after the health of your hair and scalp. Here are some simple tips for growing out your hair in the best possible manner.
Hair Growth Tips
Balanced Diet
The hair needs nourishment just like our body. In order for the hair to grow normally, you must ensure that you eat healthy. A balanced diet is half the battle won, and thus your diet must include all the essential vitamins and minerals, as well as proteins and calcium. The hair consists of proteins, which is why foods rich in proteins such as fish, meat, eggs, pulses, legumes, yogurt, and soy are essential for the body. Fish is known to be rich in omega-3, which is excellent for hair growth as well as for building stronger immunity against diseases. A good immune system, entails that the hair growth will not be hindered by hormonal imbalances, infection and fluctuation in hair sebum secretion. Soy is believed to not only strengthen the hair from the roots, but also has shown to stimulate hair growth in some people.
Added Supplements
Genes play a very crucial role in determining the health of your hair. If thin hair is a genetic trait in your family, then it is possible that you may not have a very dense hair growth. You can try to stimulate the growth by adding certain necessary supplements into your diet, such as Beta- Carotene, vitamin B complex, vitamin E, C, B-6, Iron, flax seed oil, and olive oil. Your hair shows the state of your health, therefore if you have a deficiency, your hair will begin to look dry and perhaps may even develop split ends. Apart from a healthy diet, it is important that you look after your hair.
Bimonthly Hair Trimming
You must consciously get your hair trimmed every 2-3 months, or as and when you realize that the hair tips are thinning out, or breaking. Trimming an inch and a half, would ensure that the growth remains thick from the tips. Split ends tend to spread and make the damaged strands progressively weak, thus avoiding split ends will aid in healthier growth.
Moisturize Your Hair
Keep your hair moisturized at all times, so as to prevent breakage, split ends, thinning, and discoloration. This can be accomplished by treating the hair shaft, and tips with a deep conditioner. Let the conditioner remain for at least 5 minutes and then wash it off. It is not advisable to rub conditioner on the scalp as it weakens the roots, and if its allowed to remain on the hair for too long. However, this rule does not apply for natural homemade conditioners such as aloe vera gel, egg yolk, yogurt, or milk.
Hot Oil Therapy
Hot oil massage is the healthiest way to stimulate hair growth. Hot oil therapy helps increase the blood flow to the scalp, thereby causing the pores on the scalp to absorb more nutrients from the oil. In order to reap the best results for your hair, you must always apply natural oils during a hair massage. Oils such as castor oil, olive oil, coconut oil, or herbal oil concoctions are options that you can reap great benefits from. Avoid commercially available alternatives.
Safe Hair Combing
Never comb your hair while it's wet. Since the hair is the weakest when it is wet, it tends to break and detach from the roots easily. It is better to let the hair dry naturally without using blow dryers and curlers. Air drying your hair is good, as it allows your hair to breathe. Use a wide tooth comb, so that your hair does not get tangled, or break. Remember not to comb your hair often, instead combing before you sleep is the best option as it allows the blood circulation to increase, which instead stimulates hair growth.
Frizz-Free Hair
Try using a good hair serum for keeping your hair moisturized, and frizz-free. For people with dry and curly hair, it is best to use a leave-in conditioner, or similar hair care product, so that these protect your hair from further damage. However, I would recommend using herbal alternatives, or at least products that have herbal ingredients in them, thereby reducing the level of chemicals being used on the hair. The reason being, that constant use of chemicals on hair, tends to deteriorate its texture, strength, and sheen.
Healthy Lifestyle
Another way for stimulating hair growth, is to avoid smoking and drinking alcohol, as it dehydrates the entire body. Drink a lot of water at regular intervals, so that it aids in flushing out toxins from your system. Excess toxins within the body have a direct impact on the state of your hair, skin, and health.
Hair growth does not happen quickly. Also, men have a faster rate of hair growth as compared to women, because they keep their hair short and regularly trimmed, or cut. The best option is to wait for your hair to grow, while you try your best to look after it.
