Lemon Oil for Furniture


A powerful clean and polishing agent, lemon oil can easily bring the lost luster in your old furniture back. Since store-bought cleaning products are too expensive, making the oil at home is the best way to go. Though it's true that there are many effective cleaning and polishing products available in market, the lasting results of the oil is definitely noticeable. It's non-toxic, environment friendly, and you will save a lot of money by making the oil for furniture at home. The citric scent of the oil will not only make your furniture shine and glow, it will also leave your home smelling fresh and clean. Just a few drops of the oil and you've got months of shining furniture. In our article, we will be going over few recipes using the oil for cleaning wooden furniture.

Making Lemon Oil

Although there are many uses of the lemon oil, we are only sticking to its use as a furniture polish. But don't get me wrong, the recipes mentioned below can also be used on painted wood, fiberglass, glass shower doors, and plastic surfaces. Spraying even a little bit of oil can go a long way. So without wasting any more time, let's get to the recipes.

Recipe 1
In a bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice and couple of drops of jojoba oil or any other essential oil like linseed oil. Stir properly with a spoon and dip a soft, clean cotton towel or rag in the oil. Use this cloth to wipe over your wooden furniture in the direction of the grain. Take another dry, clean towel or rag and wipe the furniture properly. This will give the furniture its shine.

Recipe 2
In a bowl, combine 2 parts of olive oil and 1 part of fresh lemon juice together. Give it a good stir and dip a soft, clean cotton towel or rag in it. Use this cloth to wipe over your wooden furniture in the direction of the grain. If there are any hard-to-reach areas of the furniture, dip a soft-bristled toothbrush to clean. Take another dry, clean towel or rag and wipe the furniture properly. This will give the furniture its shine.

Recipe 3
To make this next recipe, in a bowl, combine 3 parts olive oil, 1 part white wine vinegar, and 1 part fresh lemon juice. Stir the ingredients properly and pour into a clean spray bottle. Take a soft, clean cotton towel or rag, spray little bit of the lemon oil polish, and rub the furniture in the direction of the grain. If your furniture has been buffed before, then let it dry on its own.

If you feel comfortable cleaning wood furniture with a store-bought lemon oil product, then you can find them at any home improvement stores. Just remember to glance at the ingredients section and see if they include mineral oil and lemon oil in it. And also be careful not to purchase the cleaners which have more than 3-5 ingredients.

Now that you know how lemon oil is made, the task of cleaning and polishing your furniture will be a breeze. While cleaning wood furniture, remember that these recipes are supposed to be made and used on the same day. Don't mix a batch first and use it on some other day. You might just risk of getting your furniture stained. So fresh lemon oil made just minutes before use is ideal.
