Seashell Candle
Here is a creative way to use those seashells that you collect at the beach. For this project you will need large or medium-sized seashells.

Things required

  • Seashells
  • Wax
  • Double boiler
  • Wicks
  • Bleach
Procedure

First clean the seas shells thoroughly to remove all dirt and sand that might be sticking to its crevices. Next dry them out and then observe them carefully to see if there are any cracks on the shell. For this project you will need smooth seashells that are fairly uniform with no cracks. In a container or plastic bucket add a few drops of bleach to water and then immerse the shells in them. This will ensure that the seashells are completely clean. Put the shells out to dry.

In a double boiler, melt the wax and add a drop of color if you wish. When the wax has melted, pour the wax into the dry seashells until they are almost full. Now place a small piece of candle wick in the bottom of the seashell at the center. Allow the wax to dry completely. Your seashell candle is ready and you can use it to decorate your coffee table or fireplace mantel. This is also a great handmade gift idea for friends and family.

Fork Key Rack
If you want to make something useful out of household materials, then this project is perfect for you. For this you will need old forks that you no longer use and a block of wood.

Things required
  • Thin metallic fork
  • Square wood piece
  • Metal triangular hangers
  • Industrial strength glue
  • Acrylic paint
Procedure

The first thing that you need to do is bend the metallic fork. To do this just hold it with a pair of tongs and place it over the gas burner. Make sure the flames touch the area of the fork where the twines of the fork meet the body of the fork. Once the fork is sufficiently pliant, place the hot fork over a wooden table and then bend it by applying pressure. Once you have bend the fork, place it aside to cool.

Now you need to work on the wooden square. File the piece of wood with a fine grit sandpaper and then clean it to remove any saw dust. Apply a coat of acrylic paint in a color of your choice. Allow the paint to dry. Glue the metallic triangular hanger on one side of the square with industrial strength glue. Make sure that it is centered properly. Next flip the wooden square and then glue the fork into it. The twines of the fork should be facing towards you and the handle end should be facing upward. Allow glue to dry. Hang the wooden square on the wall and place your key rings in the handle end of the fork!

Paper Mobile
Mobiles are not just for the baby's nursery. A modern and minimalistic mobile made with paper can look great in the living room.

Things required
  • Lightweight craft paper (in 2 - 3 different colors)
  • Small pebbles
  • Sewing machine
  • Thread
  • Pair of scissors
Procedure

To make this simple craft place the different colored craft papers, one on top of the other and mark them into 1 inch wide strips which are about 4 - 5 inches in length. Now cut these with a pair of sharp scissors making sure that the cuts are precise and straight. Next arrange these bits of paper on your table in a color pattern that appeals to you. Now stack them together and sew them one after another in a sewing machine. Once you have the desired length, stop sewing any more paper strips. Since the bottom strip of paper has a tendency to curl upwards, tie a small piece of pebble to the thread hanging from the bottom strip of paper. Voila! Your modern paper mobile is ready to be hung from the ceiling.

After making crafts like this, you will be able to come up with your own unique design and pattern for making beautiful crafts for your home.
