How to Stimulate Hair Growth
Regardless of all the changes in fashion and hairstyles, long hair is still considered as elegant and gorgeous. Long, thick and lustrous hair is also a sign of good health and vitality. On the other hand, brittle, dry and damaged hair, as well as excessive hair loss are the signs that something is wrong with our body. In most of the cases, these common hair problems are the result of unhealthy eating habits, lack of proper hair care and use of harsh chemicals and excessive use of hair styling products. These problems can be solved and hair growth can be stimulated with proper hair care along with a healthy diet and some hair growth remedies.
Promoting Hair Growth
The key is to follow a proper hair care regimen, include healthy foods in the diet and use some natural products that are known for centuries for their ability to promote hair growth.
Hair Care Methods
Cleaning and moisturizing are two major components of a proper hair care regimen for stimulating hair growth. However, the basics of hair care can differ a bit depending on the specific type of the hair. Usually, dry and curly hair is more difficult to manage and needs more moisturizing than oily hair. However, irrespective of the hair type, the scalp has to be kept free of dirt and dead cells to encourage hair growth. If the skin pores remain clogged, then the growth of hair can slow down. Cleaning helps to open up the pores and thereby, promotes hair growth.
However, frequency of washing or shampooing depends on the hair types. Dry hair should not be washed everyday. Such hair can be washed once or twice a week, and cleaning should be followed by conditioning. Always use a mild shampoo to wash your hair. People having dry hair can go for hot oil treatment to moisturize their hair strands deeply. Olive oil, coconut oil and almond oil are excellent for giving hot oil treatment. They are rich in vitamin E, which is required for the growth of healthy and long hair. Warm any of these oils and then gently apply the oil on the scalp using your fingers. Leave the oil on your scalp for the whole night. Next day, wash it off with a mild shampoo. Use cool water to rinse your hair.
Scalp Massaging
Scalp massaging is great for hair, as it can improve blood circulation to the scalp. It can also help to stimulate the hair follicles. To massage your scalp, use the fingers and gently move them in a circular motion. You can use oils like, olive oil, coconut oil or almond oil to massage your scalp. The essential oils like, rosemary, lavender, chamomile, tea tree oil and sage oil can also be used for this purpose.
A Healthy Diet
One cannot expect success in stimulating hair growth, if the diet is not nutritious. The hair strands are basically dead protein filaments and so, our diet should contain the foods that are rich in proteins for the growth of healthy hair. Along with proteins, certain vitamins are also important like vitamin A, vitamin B3, B5, B6, B12, C and E. Similarly, minerals like, zinc, calcium, magnesium, chromium, iron, manganese, copper, selenium and potassium can also play an important role in promoting the growth of healthy hair. Some of the foods that are necessary for healthy hair are, green vegetables, beans and legumes, nuts, eggs, fish like, salmon, whole grains, carrots, poultry, soy products and low fat dairy products.
Natural Remedies for Hair Problems
These hair growth remedies can be applied on the scalp and hair to promote the growth of healthy hair. Some of the most well-known natural remedies for hair growth are, paste of Indian gooseberry or amla, chamomile, bhringaraj, castor oil, jojoba oil, rosemary oil, flaxseed oil, shikakai, henna powder and Aloe vera gel.
So, these are some of the natural ways to promote hair growth. Along with following these tips, be sure to limit the use of hair styling products, choose the right kind of hair care products, avoid the use of harsh chemicals, trim your hair at regular intervals and drink plenty of water throughout the day. If your hair is not growing and is also dry and damaged even after taking all possible care, then it can be a sign of nutritional deficiency. Extremely dry and damaged hair can be associated with thyroid problems as well. In such a situation, you should better talk to your physician or health care provider to rule out the possibility of these conditions.
