Calories in Tabouli
Lebanese and Levantine cuisine is a merger of Asian and European culture with a tinge of Arabic and north African mixed into it. You will find that apart from the collaborated method of cooking, ingredients are borrowed from all the three continents. Tabouli is basically a salad dish that is derived from the middle eastern culture and is often observed in Lebanese and Levantine cuisines. The calories and nutrition that can be derived from the salad has been discussed in the following few paragraphs. It must be noted that since the recipes are almost the same, Lebanese Tabouli calories are almost equal to normal Tabouli salad calories.
Tabouli Nutrition Information
Before we proceed to the amount of calories that are found in this salad, let us have a look at some Tabouli nutrition facts. Tabouli, which in some cases is also spelled and pronounced as, 'Tabbouleh', is principally a vegetarian salad. This salad is a vitamin rich and fiber full one and contains parsley, bulgur, mentha, tomatoes, scallion, lemon juice, olive oil, black pepper, cinnamon and allspice. With the passage of time, many new ingredients have been added to the salad and several modified recipes that contain meat have been innovated and improvised by people, have come into being. In this article we shall, however, stick to the traditional vegetarian recipe.
The salad contains a large spectrum of much-needed dietary nutrition. Tabouli salad contains small amounts of saturated fats, polyunsaturated fats and monounsaturated fats. In addition to that, it also contains sodium and potassium, coupled with dietary fibers and sugars. The salad contains an arsenal of vitamins with A, B, C, D, E being present in the recipe. Apart from that, the salad also contains, calcium, copper, folate, iron, magnesium, manganese, niacin, phosphorus, pantothenic acid, zinc, riboflavin, selenium and thiamin.
How many Calories in Tabouli
The Tabouli calorie count is less in cases where the recipe is vegetarian. If you add meat to it, the number of Tabouli calories goes on increasing. To make the salad as healthy as possible, keep it vegetarian. It would also help you to reduce the number of Tabouli calories and neutral to the rest of the meal. In fact, a vegetarian recipe will help you to healthily assimilate and digest your entire meal.
If you consume about half a cup of the Tabouli salad, you will consume about 180 calories and depending upon the amount of olive oil present, you may subtract or add 10 to 15 calories. The total fat that is consumed amounts to about 12 grams, which is equivalent to about 18% of the total calorie intake. 350 milligrams of sodium is found in one serving, which constitutes to about 15% of the intake. Total carbohydrate intake is about 17 grams, which is equivalent to 6% of the total Tabouli calories intake. Fibers and dietary sugars are also present in the carbohydrates. A presence of 4 grams of proteins also cannot be ignored, while counting the calories.
This intake of Tabouli calories is not much and in fact, will help you to digest other foods. If you have the salad for lunch then it will get digested before dinner, on its own. Apart from the automatic digestion, you may burn it up with the help of 50 minutes of walking or 21 minutes of jogging, 15 minutes of swimming or 27 minutes of cycling.
