How to Make Spanish Rice


Did you know one interesting fact about 'Spanish' rice? Though this dish contains the word Spanish in it, due to which one takes it for granted that this is a dish of Spain, but it does not have its roots into that country. Spanish Rice in a Rice Cooker
Ingredients

  • 1 - 2 tsp cumin
  • 1 - 2 cups long grain rice
  • 2 - 4 cups water, boiled
  • 1 - 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 3 - 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • - tsp salt
  • - cup vegetable oil
  • 2 - 4 tbsp tomato paste
  • - 1 small onion, diced
Process

First cook 2 cups of rice in rice cooker. When cooked, let it cool for about 10 minutes. In a saucepan, fry rice for about 3 - 5 minutes, at medium heat, until golden. Add in onion, salt, garlic and cumin. Saute for a minute and then add in tomato paste along with boiling water. As soon as it boils (which happens pretty quick) turn the heat to low and cook for 20 minutes, covered.

Spanish Rice and Beans
Ingredients

For Beans
  • 1 tbsp pepper (chopped)
  • 1 tsp onions (chopped)1 tsp garlic (chopped)
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • tsp black pepper
  • lb pepperoni
  • 1 can pink beans
  • tsp salt
For Rice
  • 2 qt tap water
  • 1 lb rice
  • tbsp salt
Process

The rice and beans need to be cooked separately. First cook the beans, followed by the rice. Cook garlic, pepperoni, pepper and salt in one cup of water in a saucepan for about 10 minutes, at medium heat. Once cooked, add in pink beans along with tomato sauce with one more cup of water. Let it cook for 15 minutes, on medium heat, while stirring frequently. Beans are ready. For rice, boil 2 quarts of water in a cooking pot. When boiled, add salt and oil and let boil. Then add in rice, stirring occasionally. Cover rice until the rice becomes dry and single grain. Serve hot, together.

Spanish Rice With Tomato Sauce
Ingredients
  • cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cups rice
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 3 minced garlic cloves
  • 2 cups chicken broth or vegetable broth
Process

Heat oil in a medium-sized saucepan, over medium heat. Put garlic and onion in the oil and saute for about 1 - 2 minutes, until the ingredients are softened. Now add in rice and cook for about 5 minutes, until the rice is golden brown. Stir continuously. Add tomato sauce, vegetable or chicken broth to the rice. Bring to boil, stirring. Once brought to a boil, lower the heat and let simmer for about 20 minutes. Serve hot.

Spanish Rice with Brown Rice
Ingredients
  • tsp garlic powder
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 red bell pepper chopped
  • tsp kosher salt
  • 1 cup long grain brown rice
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 cup chopped onion
Process

Heat oil over medium heat in a pan. Put in rice, onion and bell pepper and saut for about 5 minutes, until the rice turns golden brown and the vegetables become tender. Now add in chili powder, garlic powder, salt, sauce and cumin, bring to a boil. When it boils, cover it with a lid and cook for about 45 minutes.
