40th Birthday Invitation Wording Ideas

Not many people are thrilled about turning 40. Anything that reminds someone of the fact that she/he is getting old is not a very pleasant thought. Yet, 40 is a milestone in everyone's life that should be celebrated well. While some may view turning 40 as turning old, for others, it is a time to try out all those things that have never been experienced before. It is a time where they have done their bit, completed their responsibilities, and are now ready to experience newer arenas in their lives. Either way, a birthday should be celebrated, whether it is to get over the misery of turning old, or the thrill of treading on paths unforeseen. If a party is in order, among all the other necessities, it is a good idea to focus on the invitations and the wording too. Since it is a big celebration, due attention should be given to all areas. If you have trouble coming up with interesting invitation wording, or if you left it for the last minute and can't think of anything creative now, here are some ideas that you can use and make the invitations unique.

Examples of Wording for 40th Birthday Invitations

There are a lot of factors you should keep in mind when coming up with invitation wording. First of all, let's look at what should be covered in the invitation:

  • Name and age of the birthday boy/girl
  • Venue and time
  • RSVP (Name, Email, Phone Number, Date)
  • Additional information regarding theme and 'bring-alongs'
  • Mention if the party is a surprise
Now, your desire is to include all this information in a creative way, that in a way reflects the theme of the party. How do you do that? Figure how you want to write the wording based on the attitude of the person turning 40. Is she/he excited or miserable about it? Will she take jokes about turning old lightly or in good spirit? Next, keep in mind the theme of the party. Either way, you may want the wording to be light and humorous, and in some cases, sentimental. The theme, say a costume party, will help you decide on the appropriate wording to be used in the invitations. You can then choose to write a short funny rhyming poem, or just put it down in simple words that clearly give the message. You can also choose to put in some funny quotes that mark the big 4-0 in a person's life. Without further ado, here are some ideas for you.

Men, they say, who turn 40
Are looking for ways to get naughty
They want to do things they've never done before,
In the summer breeze on the seashore.

Dan's big 4-0 we will celebrate
On the Zebra Beach, April 12 is the date
Don your beachwear, and be there by 8.

But Myra has no choice,
Let's help uplift her mood,
Let's throw her a great surprise.

Just In!
Thanks to modern medical advances such as antibiotics, nasal spray, and Diet Coke,
it has become routine for people in the civilized world to pass the age of 40,
sometimes more than once.
