Tips for Cleaning a Carpet
Regular cleaning of carpet is important for various reasons. It helps to maintain the hygiene in your home. It is required for the preservation of the attractive look of your carpet. Cleaning will also ensure that your carpet remains free from bad odor. When you take care of your carpet well, it is bound to increase its lifespan.
Cleaning Dust from a Carpet
Clean your carpet, using a vacuum cleaner regularly. It has been found that more than seventy percent of the soils that affect your carpet are dry and the rest are oily substances, starches and greases. These dust particles can best be removed by simple vacuuming. Use the correct technique of vacuuming as mentioned in the instruction manual for carpet cleaning. Move your vacuum cleaners in all directions, a number of times, so that it can pick up maximum amount of debris. If this is done on a daily basis it can prevent damage to a great extent.
Tips for Cleaning Stains from a Carpet
Carpet stain removal is a very challenging task. If you do not clean the stains properly from the surface of the carpet, they can reappear after some time. Hence, you should cover up the stain with a thick piece of cloth and put a heavy weight on it, so that the cloth can absorb some of the stain. After this, the cleaning process can be started. Here, we discuss some of the common situations that can get your carpets stained and soiled and tips to clean the carpet.
Cleaning Spilled Liquids
Spilled liquids cause a lot of damage to your carpets. Always try to clean up the spills as soon as possible, using water. If water does not work on the spills, then apply a solution of vinegar and water on it. For this, you have to prepare a mixture with equal amounts of vinegar and water and spray it over the stained area. Keep it untouched for fifteen minutes and then clean it with a sponge. Wash off with warm water. Place some paper towels on the wet area until it dries.
Removing Food Stains
In order to remove food stains, you can use shaving cream. Spray it over the affected area generously and allow it to settle down for fifteen minutes. Then, rinse it off with a solution of vinegar and water.
Cleaning Greasy Stubborn Marks
You can take the help of some carpet cleaning products available in the market, in order to remove stubborn stains of oils and grease. If your carpet gets stained with magic marker, it is unlikely that these stains will completely be removed. Marks of ink can be treated with alcohol to yield the best results. In order to get rid of gum or molten wax from the carpet, you have to freeze them with ice cubes for some time and then take them out with the blunt side of a knife.
Cleaning Mold and Mildew
Growth of fungus, like molds can leave behind stubborn marks on the carpet. To remove them, you can use non-chlorine bleaching substances. If the fabric of the carpet is a colored one, then you can apply lemon juice mixed up with salt on the marks. Let it sit on the carpet for five minutes and then blot it with the help of a paper towel. You can see the marks disappear.
No matter how tough the stain is, never try to rub the stained area, as this will cause the fibers of the carpet to be broken down. As a result, the stain will spread to a larger area. Use of iron and hair dryer should be strictly avoided on any kind of stains. They will adversely affect the carpet and seal the stain on the carpet permanently. If you wish to use some cleaning products, make sure that you choose the mildest types. Before applying it on the carpet, read the label carefully and follow all the instructions.
