How to Relax a Perm

For women who have straight hair, there's always a craze of getting perms or curls done. But when you get them done, it is not always necessary that you will like what you see. Except for a few cases, most women who get their hair curled or permed complain about tighter hair perms or curlier hair. Depending on the texture, these hair care treatments take their effect on your hair, turning them fuzzy and uncontrollable. So, if you are facing such a problem, there are a few home remedies that can be used to relax the unmanageable perms.

Relaxing a Perm at Home

When you are perming your hair professionally, means using various types of chemicals to make them look naturally wavy. These chemicals might have an adverse effect on your hair leading a slight texture change. When the texture of your hair changes, the types of perms, might tighten or become a little too curly. Thus, you may get a different look than what you paid for. But, don't worry, it's not the end of the world! There are many ways to relax a perm or soften it to make it look natural, by using some effective home remedies.

Home Remedies
You will need a few supplies which I am sure all of you have. These useful things are;

  • Moisturizing permed hair shampoo and conditioner
  • Wide toothed Comb
  • Hot oil or deep-conditioning treatment
  • Olive oil
Directions:
  • When you realize that you have fuzzy perms, with shabby uneven hair popping out, you need to relax your perms. This helps in softening the straight hair perms and making them manageable whenever required. For this purpose, wash your hair with moisturizing shampoo within the first 3 days of getting the treatment. This is because the shampoo can remove a small amount of perm's chemicals, before it starts showing the curling effect.
  • After the first wash, apply the moisturizing conditioner to your hair and let it set for more than 15 minutes. While doing this, use a wide mouth comb to comb your hair straight. Repeat the combing process for about 5 to 6 times and then wait for another 5 minutes before rinsing it off.
  • Rinse your hair with warm water and continue till the conditioner is completely off your hair. Then repeat the first two steps again, rinsing it for the last time.
  • Let your wavy perms dry for sometime, but don't use a blow dryer as this will make the hair dryer than required. Let it dry naturally for about 5 minutes and then apply the hot oil treatment to it. The hot oil, helps the hair gain some weight and shine and relaxes the uneven perms which were jutting out shabbily earlier. (Make use of the hot oil at least twice in a week for better results and manageable perms.)
  • Since olive oil for hair is the best conditioner, soak your hair in it at least twice a week. Olive oil is a great option for adding shine and strength to your hair, which is required when there are so many chemicals acting on your hair to make them curly. With olive oil, you will have healthier and gentle curls, just like the natural ones! You can even make beautiful hair perm styles when your hair is lustrous and soft.
With these tips, I am sure you found them helpful. Your hair is very sensitive to chemicals and subjecting it to minimum amounts of them will only help them be stronger.
