Hair Vitamins for Black Women
Hair is the crowning glory for humans, especially women. While each and every member of the fairer sex vies for healthy and beautiful hair, only some of them become successful. The unlucky ones may either go for various hair care treatments, that may result in further damage to the hair or live in despair. However, such women have to understand one thing - the hair consistency, type and growth rate differs from one person to another. It is dependent on various factors, like genetics, proper nutrition and proper hair care. As far as genetics is concerned, you cannot change your genes, but, you can take care of the other factors and make your hair shiny, healthy and manageable.
Talking about African-American women, most of them are annoyed with their hair, which is dry, frizzy, brittle and difficult to manage and grow. Hair loss and thinning hair is a common complaint and in order to overcome these problems, they try various hair care products indiscriminately, resort to curling, straightening, blow drying or perming, or start wearing wigs and weaves. All these result in further damage to the hair and may even result in hair loss or thinning. All of these make it difficult for the hair to grow.
Hair Vitamins for Black Women
Growing long and healthy hair is dependent on various factors like proper hair care, proper diet and proper styling techniques. The most important among them is a proper diet with sufficient vitamins. Vitamins are very important for the smooth functioning of the bodily systems and the same applies for the growth of healthy hair. Best hair vitamins for black hair include vitamin B, vitamin C and vitamin E. It is better to buy a B-complex vitamin supplement, that contains thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), piroxidine (B6), folic acid (B9), cyanocobalamin (B12), and biotin. Studies show that these vitamins, especially vitamin B5 and biotin are beneficial as black hair vitamins.
In order to make your hair healthy, your body needs sufficient amounts of vitamin C too. One of the functions of vitamin C is to develop collagen for holding the body tissues together. In case of a deficiency of this vitamin, there are chances that your hair will develop split ends that lead to breakage. So, a deficiency of vitamin C may inhibit hair growth and this condition can be rectified by increasing the levels of vitamin C intake. You may eat foods rich in vitamin C, like citrus fruits, tomatoes, green leafy vegetables, melons and berries. Vitamin E is very well-known for its role in skin care and hair care and is one among the best hair vitamins for black people. A healthy scalp is indispensable for healthy hair. Vitamin E can play a big role in making a scalp healthy, by increasing the blood circulation to that part of the body. This helps the hair to grow faster and become healthy too.
Apart from the above said important hair vitamins, there are some other vitamins and minerals, that can be beneficial for black people. They are magnesium, sulfur, zinc, silica and beta carotene. It has been observed that flaxseed oil is also good for hair growth and also for hair loss prevention. You can either plan your diet, so that it meet the daily requirements of these vitamins and minerals or you can take multivitamins supplements. You may also replace tap water with spring water, which can provide you with several vitamins and minerals, especially zinc (for the maintenance of the oil-secreting glands of the scalp).
Golden Rules for Hair Care
As the hair of black people tends to be more dry and brittle, always make sure that it is properly moisturized, at least two to three times a day. Avoid application of products with harsh chemicals, mineral oils and petroleum jelly, but use natural oils. You must also avoid hair care products with ingredients like, methyl, propyl, butyl, ethylparaben, polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate, synthetic colors, DEA (diethanolamine), MEA (monoethanolamine), TEA (triethanolmine) and isopropyl alcohol. All these chemicals are harmful for the health and growth of hair and some of them can even cause some diseases.
Apart from that, a healthy lifestyle is also beneficial for healthy hair. Quit smoking, excess alcohol consumption, avoid stress, drink lots of water and resort to regular exercises. All these measures can be beneficial for overall health and also for hair growth.
