How to Raise Money for a Trip
The noticeboard says there's a trip planned and so and so is the amount you'll need to pay. Awesome. But the money needed, where is that going to come from? So you don't want to borrow money from your parents for that trip they are taking you on. Or maybe you're in college and asking money from the folks hasn't really remained your style anymore. Now what? I'll tell you now what, you'll need to learn how to raise money for a trip, of course! And all by yourself.
Raising Money for a School Trip
School. Which means you're still young. So there will be no complicated stuff for you. Some simple plans on how to raise capital for a trip will have to do. Here's how.
Odd Jobs
Don't go about trying this around unknown neighborhoods! This works best with neighbors and relatives. Ask around if anyone needs help with anything. It could be something as simple as helping someone clean their garage, or mowing someone's lawn, helping grocery shopping, piling books into the private library, collecting fruits from the garden, stacking up piles of old newspapers, arranging closets, helping someone cook batches of jams, sorting out the attic etc, etc. There is never a dearth of odd jobs and that's where you can tap in. Fix up a rate and then spread the word that you're available over the weekend or something. Of course there is the lemonade stand idea as well or some ideas about making money online. You could do that. Can't tell you how many summers I spent doing this! It's actually a lot of fun.
Save! Save! Save!
This might not even have crossed your mind, but try it and you'll see how well it works! Consciously try and cut down on expenses. If you track your everyday expenditure, you'll find that you're spending on some things that are not really needed. An odd chocolate bought here and there adds up to a lot at the end of the month. Buy a soda everyday? Why not carry a drink from home? Sure it's added effort but worth it if you can save on cash, right? Track your things and see what else you can save on - postpone buying those pair of pants for later etc. And whatever amount you end up saving, make sure to store it in one place. That way, at the end of the day you'll know how much you've saved.
Sell and Scrap
No one really knows the potential that our homes have! There are sooooo many things that are old and are simply stored, gathering dust and taking up precious space. Here's what you do. First of all, get all the old newspaper and magazine piles and sell them to a recycling center. Same goes with old bottles, tins and other containers. Then go through the attic and find all the things that you can sell off (ask your parents first) and hold a garage sale. Find things in the garage that are simply festering there and sell them off to the scrapyard for some extra cash.
Raising Money for a Mission Trip
Mission trips are an excellent idea, but the church does not supply the funds for it. So how to get money for a trip that is so important?
Letters
Writing letters to your relatives explaining about the motive of your trip and then requesting for some financial help, is what the letter should contain. The cause is noble so there should be no problem getting some financial aid.
Scholarship
Many churches have scholarships for students who want to go for mission trips. You could talk to your church and see whether you'll get some financial aid from them. Some churches offer a platform for you to address the congregation and put your request forward.
Sales and Washes
If asking for help does not appeal to you then try arranging for a bake sale or a car wash drive or even a sort of carnival. All these things are fun and will help excellently in raising the much-needed money.
And now that you know how to raise money for that trip, who's stopping you from making it happen on your own terms and money? So get packing and have a fun time there!
