Baby Clothes Patterns
Dressing up your little bundle of joy is the cutest thing you can imagine. As a proud mother, you sure must have made quite a few trips to the mall to get stylish clothes for your baby. Picking up clothes for your baby is a privilege that you can enjoy only while your baby is too small to convey her displeasure over your choice. As she grows up, she starts making quite a fuss about her clothes. Perhaps, the little fashionista hates being dressed like hundreds of other tiny tots. It is really boring to dress up your baby in the same old-fashioned clothes available in the baby section of a mall. So how about designing baby clothes yourself for your little one? If you possess intermediate level skills at sewing, then you can easily make them yourself.
How to Make Baby Clothes Patterns
Baby clothes patterns can be considered as templates, which provide a framework for sewing baby clothes. Also the pattern allows you to make clothes for your baby in future as well. Thus, a single pattern can allow you to make a variety of clothes for your little one.
Begin your project by taking measurements of your baby. Measure the circumference of her neck and then length from neck to torso. Also measure length from torso to waist. Measure her tiny waist and from there towards her toes. Transfer all the measurements on a muslin cloth, with a pencil. Note the measurements from top to bottom. You may have to add a few centimeters here and there, if you are planning to drape the clothing.
Creating darting and seams comes at a later stage, when you actually sew the fabric into clothing. The reason is, the measurement of darting and seams is highly dependent on the type of fabric used. Hence, it is always better to leave a free space for these measurements. Different fabrics have a tendency to drape and hang differently depending upon their texture and weight.
Make sure your markings are correct, since you will also be requiring this pattern for future use. Make sure to leave a free space of few centimeters, so as to allow the fabric to give on. If you need to sew a fitted clothing, you can always pull in the fabric. Basically, having an added margin broadens your scope to play with the fitting of the clothing.
After you are done with baby clothes pattern sewing, it is time to do a mock run. Cut the fabric along the marked linings on the muslin cloth. Bring the pieces of fabric together and place them on the pattern. Attach the pieces together with wide stitches, so that the pieces fit over the pattern. You do not need to perfectly stitch the fabric, as you might have to make adjustments to the fabric. Try the clothing on your baby and check if it fits snuggly. Make any adjustments, if you need to. Remove the wide stitches and stitch the fabric properly.
Similarly, you can also make several other baby clothes patterns. You may combine fabric of different textures and colors to create unique outfits for your baby. Having two to three patterns at hand can allow you to design innumerable baby clothes. You can get fabric for infant clothes patterns at cheaper rates on online stores or at other discount stores.
You can also crochet baby clothes patterns for creating traditional and customized baby clothing. You have an ample scope for experimentation while stitching baby clothes. Your baby is bound to love the beautiful clothing that her mother designs especially for her.
