Million Dollar 'Fine' for Talking on Phone while Driving

There is a reason why people are cautioned not to talk on the phone and drive. For a unidentified Texan, this proved to be an expensive mistake, with him losing control of his million dollar car and driving it into a salt marsh.

The car in question was a Bugatti Veyron, a French sports car, of which there are only 15 in the US. The accident occurred in La Marque, about 35 miles away from Houston. The man was driving his million dollar Bugatti Veyron while talking on the phone, when a bird distracted him. According to him, the bird, a low flying pelican, caused him to drop the phone and in the process lose control of the car. The car veered off the road and landed in a salt marsh.

The La Marque police at the scene said that the driver was not injured, but also expressed doubts if the car could be salvaged. La Marque police Lt. Gilchrist, at the scene of the 'accident' said, "Salt water is not good for anything". A similar 2006 model recently sold for about 1.25 million dollars, which will be a substantial loss for the Texan if the car cannot be salvaged.

The insanely expensive car was half submerged in the salt water and was found about 20 meters away from the road. At more than a million dollars, this will be the highest 'fine' for talking on a cell phone while driving, and will certainly make the driver think twice before attempting something like this again.
