Sookie Stackhouse Books in Order
Unless you've been living under a rock for the past two years, you must have heard about or watched the vampire drama series, True Blood. The series takes a look at a world, where all those monsters under your bed, like vampires and demons, live out in the open with humans. Plenty of action, mythology and a dark comic twist, the story behind True Blood is an equally popular novel series, called Southern Vampire Mysteries. With 10 books released and fans eagerly awaiting the 11th volume, this series is yet another glimpse into the world of occult. Before you knock it off as another Twilight reproduction (incidentally Twilight novels series was released after this series), read on to learn the story and a list of Sookie Stackhouse novels in order.
Southern Vampire Mysteries
The Southern Vampire Mysteries is a supernatural novel series, which describes a world in which beings like vampires, werewolves and fairies live side by side with humans, and are considered as legal citizens. This series is written by Charlaine Harris and published first in 2001. Unlike most spooky fiction where these occult members hide from society, here vampires reveal themselves to the human world, to live among them. They no longer need to feast on human blood, as a group of scientists developed a substitute. But they are extremely secretive about their society and way of life.
The main protagonist is Sookie Stackhouse, a barmaid living in Louisiana. She seems to be a normal, twenty something young woman, but she has a secret: she's telepathic. She and her sibling, Jason, are orphans who live with their grandmother until her death. How Sookie became a telepathic is unclear. Both she and her brother have fairy blood, but Jason just has the power of attraction, while Sookie is blessed with more magical talent.
Sookie can read people's minds, some easily as compared to others. She can commune with other telepaths but she cannot read the minds of vampires clearly, though sometimes she gets rare glimpses. Her gift of telepathy shields her from mental manipulation from vampires and other mythical beings like maenads. The series mythology has many different types of spooky creatures, and in each book, Sookie meets and interacts with different ones. Her boss Sam is a shapeshifter, and her great-grandfather, Niall Brigant, is a fairy prince. She gets involved with Bill Compton, a vampire, because she cannot read his mind.
