Cleaning Grout with Peroxide and Baking Soda

To be fair to grout, it is a substance which has its utility. After all, it is the substance keeping all your bathroom and other tiles cemented in place. It is an especially useful substance in bathrooms, as it stops water and other liquids from spilling and seeping into the space between the tiles. Let's face it, if it weren't for grout, your floors would probably be leaky and moldy with tiles coming unstuck when we least expect it.

About Cleaning Grout

But that does not excuse the fact that grout is a major headache when we try to clean it! In spite of all its advantages, it is unfortunately one of the hardest substances to clean. And you have to clean between floor tiles. Because whatever be the color of the tiles that you use, grout is the most visible substance in there and draws more attention of the onlookers than the tiles themselves!

Cleaning grout can be a fairly frustrating experience. This is mainly because it requires to be cleaned a bit too often due to reappearance of mildew. Another problem is that vigorously cleaning the grout or using stronger substances, may dim the color of your grout or even spoil it, prompting you to redo the tiled floor again. But one of the simplest ways of doing this is with peroxide and baking soda, which is one of the best homemade cleaner.

Effective Way to Clean the Grout

What you need for this little experiment is baking soda, a towel, hydrogen peroxide and an old toothbrush. First you have to dampen the area with a wet, clean towel. Dampen the grout with this towel but ensure that it does not get too wet. Next, sprinkle some baking soda over the grout. The baking soda will stick to the grout better. Let this baking soda stay for some time. In the mean time, dip an old toothbrush into some hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is very commonly used as a mild disinfectant and is a powerful bleaching agent and is perfect for cleaning unstained, white grout. After letting the baking soda sit for about 10 - 15 minutes on the moist grout, scrub the surface with the old toothbrush dipped in the hydrogen peroxide. The baking soda acts as a mild abrasive over the grout and helps clean it. This is a very good and potent mixture, as it cleans the grout, but does not spoil it. Thus we can see that cleaning grout using peroxide and baking soda is a very good idea!

As we can see it is an effective, yet fairly simple way of cleaning grout between floor tiles. So now you no longer need to worry about your dirty, mildewed grout any more! All you need is some baking soda, peroxide and an old toothbrush. These humble substances make the best bathroom cleaning team for removing grout!
