How to Bleach Blue Jeans
It happens a number of times that you buy a pair of denims and do not like the color later on. You need not discard the pair; just bleach them using the instructions pitched in below and you will have a new pair.
Bleaching Blue Jeans
Follow the easy steps below to bleach your blue jeans:
- Fill Bucket with Water: Fill three quarters of a bucket with warm water. It is suggested you use the biggest bucket at home to bleach your jeans.
- Add Bleach to Water: The next step is to add bleach to the water. The quantity of bleach will depend on two questions. They are: how dark your jeans are and how much do you want to lighten them. Normally, the quantity required is 1 to 2 cups. 2 cups of bleach will lighten the jeans anywhere from sky-blue to a bluish white color. Once you have decided, add the required quantity. But take care you do not spill bleach on the clothes you are wearing or else you will end up bleaching them as well.
- Soak Denim in Water: Before you put the jeans in the water, do not forget to care of your hands. Wear gloves to protect them, as bleach can burn your hands. After wearing your gloves soak the denims in the water. Ensure you space out the jeans as much as possible and completely immerse them in the bleach mixture.
- Reposition the Jeans: Now comes the question, how long should the jeans be soaked in the mixture? The answer to this question will depend on how much you want to lighten them. Normally, five to eight minutes are sufficient. Reposition the jeans. This is an important step. If you avoid it, you might end up bleaching one side of the denim more than the other. You should keep checking the color. The moment you have the desired color, you will have to change the sides.
- Pull Jeans Out of Water: Pull the jeans out of the bucket. Conduct a thorough check to ensure that all areas of the jeans are bleached evenly.
- Soak the Other Side: Now change the direction of the denim and soak the other side. You will notice that the pockets, stitching and hem are not evenly bleached. Fret not! There is a solution to this as well. Take a sponge and dab the bleach mixture on all the areas you think are not well bleached. Just like the first side, pull out the jeans after five to eight minutes.
- Dry the Jeans: It's time to dry your 'new' jeans. Hang them on the drying line. Before you rush off, get hold of old newspapers and towels and lay them on the floor just beneath the drying line. The bleach solution from the jeans might drip on the floor. I am sure you do not want bleached floors, or do you?
- Check the Color: Once the denims have dried, check if that is the color you wanted. If not, then you can repeat the entire process. By now, you know it's not a difficult process.
- Wash Jeans before Wearing: Make sure you wash the jeans after bleaching, before you use them.
