Tips for Raising Money for Your Next Charity Event

Tis the season for charity walks and runs. As soon as the weather gets warmer, charities start planning their walks and runs for the summer, and people who participate put on their running shoes and start to train. They also start to ask for money. If you are also trying to raise money for a charity, you may want to start thinking of great ways to do it aside from just asking people to give it to you. These days, people want something for their money, even if they are donating it to a charity. Here are some great tips and tricks for raising money for your favorite charity.

Plan a Party

Parties are great ways to raise money for charity. If you have a party with a theme that relates to your charity, thats even better. For example, you can have a pink drink party to raise money for breast cancer research. At a party like this, every drink you make would be pink, so you could make cosmopolitans, pink lemonade drinks, and serve ros wine. Have your guests wear pink, too, to keep the fun going. If you are raising money for another cause with a significant color, make drinks with those colors. If drinks aren't your thing, you could try serving themed food. For a party that is raising money for Ronald McDonald House Charities, you could serve McDonalds themed foods, like burgers and fries. Of course, you could always just throw a normal party, too. When you send out your invitations, ask for a specific donation at the door. When people come, they will give you money and youll be much closer to your goal.

Sell Cookies

Selling cookies, or any other baked good, is a wonderful way to raise money. The Girl Scouts have been doing it for years, and it has worked out pretty well for them. You can do the same on a smaller scale. Make cookies cut out to look like ribbons and paint them the color of your cause. Wrap them individually and set them out in your office for people to buy. This is not only a great way to make money, but also a great way to let people know you are participating in a charity event. Half the battle or raising money is spreading the word of your participation, so selling cookies is an easy way to do that.

Make Ribbons

If cookies aren't your thing, ribbons are another great way to spread the word about your event. Make crazy and fun ribbons inexpensively and hand them out with note cards detailing how people can donate to you. All you need are a few spools of fun ribbon in your causes color - maybe with some funky designs on it, too - and some hot glue and safety pins. Cut the ribbon, glue it together, and put a pin on the back. Easy and cheap!

Make a Website

In the age of the Internet, having a website is a perfect way to tell your story and give details to people about how to donate. If you are participating in a charity event for a specific reason - maybe you suffered from a disease yourself, or maybe you know someone who has - then a webpage with pictures and stories can help your friends and family see just how important this charity is to you, and they will then be more likely to donate to your cause.
