Cleaning Recipes

No need to fret over the dulled jewelry any more. Here are some homemade jewelry cleaner recipes that you can use for making your own cleaner.

Detergent/Shampoo and Water
Use any mild detergent or a mild shampoo (make absolutely sure that it does not have any harsh chemicals) and mix it in warm water. Now put the jewelry in the bowl and let it sit for 30 minutes or so. The warm water will help loosen the dirt and the detergent will help clean it. After 30 minutes have passed, use a toothbrush and gently scrub the jewelry all over. You'll see that the dirt is getting lodged out from the crevices. Take a cotton bud and clean out those areas where the toothbrush can't reach. Run it through normal water and brush it with a toothbrush if the need be. Then wipe dry. You'll see that the jewelry shines through.

Aluminum Foil and Baking Soda
Use a bowl and cover it with an aluminum foil, with the shiny side placed on top. Put the jewelry in it and sprinkle it with baking soda so that it covers the jewelry completely. Then add boiling water to the bowl and cover the bowl. Let the jewelry soak in this solution for 30 minutes or so. Then remove it from the solution and rinse well.

Baking Soda and Vinegar
Mix equal portions of white vinegar and baking soda to make a thick paste. Dip a toothbrush in this paste and gently brush the jewelry clean. One can also use a soft cloth to clean the jewelry with this paste. This is recommended for the intricate and more delicate pieces. The advantage of this cleaner is that it can be used for most forms of jewelry like gold, silver and platinum.

Ammonia and Water
These are some more ingredients that can be used in the recipe. Mix ammonia in warm water and dip the jewelry in this mixture. You can add a mild detergent if the jewelry has dirt lodged in. After it has been soaked in, gently brush with a toothbrush and remove the dirt. Then rinse and dry with cloth or cotton.

Rubbing Alcohol
Dip jewelry in a solution of warm water and detergent and let soak for 30 minutes. Then brush with a soft bristled toothbrush. Rinse with normal water and dry with a cloth. Next, dip the jewelry in alcohol and let it sit for 10 minutes, then remove from solution and wipe with a soft cloth. This will provide an unparalleled sheen to the jewelry.

Vodka
Clear and unflavored vodka is one of the best cleaners for diamonds and platinum jewelry. Use about - cup of vodka and pour over the jewelry so that it gets soaked in. Let the jewelry sit in for 15-30 minutes, longer if the soil build up is more. Then use a toothbrush and brush off the soil. After that, rinse it around in the vodka and dislodge any particles that are stuck to it. Then spread over a towel and let it air dry.

These were some jewelry cleaner recipes that you can use to get your jewelry shining through and sparkling like new. Hope this helped.
