Prom dresses have always been a major talk amongst all excited girls wanting to look their best on prom nights. Vintage prom dresses are quite popular as a theme for many nights in the recent times. Prom Dress Styles in the 80s
The prom dresses of the 1980s always had extra fabric added to the design. These dresses were generally colorful and of dark shades. The main thing about prom dresses during the 80s was the use of dazzling gold, steel silver, beautiful pinks and electric blues. The dresses were definitely bold in their structure and often attracted attention at all prom parties.

Ruffles
Ruffles are basically an add-on to a dress. This can be on top of the dress that is below the neck, like a falling collar or at the bottom of the dress like a frill. Ruffles can be worn by women of all sizes. To skimpy women, ruffles can give a look of enhanced size, whereas to plump ladies it can help to hide that extra fat. The best thing about ruffles is that it makes the dress look sexier.
Polka Dots
This style was seen in fashion ramps last year. The big dots on dresses gave the dress a classic look. Be it a skirt, a high-necked top or an off-shoulder dress, it looked good in all styles. This pattern looked the best on cotton, georgette and silk fabrics. A polka dot dress, with an 80s' classic hairstyle will be a definite head turner.
Sequins
There was also an emphasis in terms of embellishment. These figure-hugging dresses had designs made of sequins. The kinds of fabric used were basically gorgeous silks or velvets and soft satins. Lace and pearls were also added into the design. These add-ons enhanced the look of the dresses and made it more elegant. This pattern looked best on long gowns and short dresses.
Bows
Bows on dresses were quite popular with the prom styles of 1980s. The bows were seen either on the waistline or back of the dress or on the neck. It looked cute on gowns and short dresses and gave a complete feminine look to the person. This style is always in vogue and can never look 'out of fashion'.
Puffed Sleeves
This was another style that was largely seen in the 80s. In this, the gown or a short dress had puffed sleeves. The puff looked great on half-sleeved as well as full-sleeved dresses.
Puffed sleeves looked best on girls with thin arms as the puff made their arms look healthy. This style was in fashion a year ago. This is one particular style that cannot be worn at any point of time unless it is in fashion, as the style might look outdated.
These were some of the basic elements that were a common factor amongst all the 80s' prom dresses. You can attempt this look by browsing through the various sites online that cater towards such a style. You can also take a look at specific clothing stores in your area. So, this prom night, I am sure you are bound to dazzle everybody in true vintage-era style!
