Soap Scum Removal


Every time you take shower, you make the shower area subject to heat, humidity and soap residues. Over a period of time, the shower area accumulates a buildup called soap scum. It is a combination of soap residues, body oils, calcified mineral residues and dirt from the waste water from your bath. The soap scum is a nuisance which can stain and discolor the surface of your bathroom. To add to it, it can even contribute to the growth of mold and mildew. Thus, there is always a need for soap scum removal. If it is not done on time, it can result in corrosion of the metals of bathroom drains and fixtures. There are some fairly easy ways to remove soap scum which has been described below. Make use of it for removing soap scum from shower doors, shower glass, bathtubs, etc. and keep your bathroom clean and beautiful always.

How to Remove Soap Scum?
Soap scum cleaning products are available in the market. Purchase a good quality one which fits in your budget. Read the instructions mentioned on the pack. Follow the instructions to remove soap scum from the desired area. Usually the instructions for removing soap scum are more or less similar to what is given in this paragraph. Spray some water on the area in the bathroom where the soap scum has been accumulated. Such areas are around the bathtub and shower doors. Take a clean cotton cloth and wet it with water. Put the amount of the cleaning product as recommended on its pack. Apply the product on the damp area. Leave it on there for the period of time, again as recommended on the pack. If you wish and agree with the usage direction, make a solution of a small amount of product with water. Spray it on the areas having soap scum buildups, and allow it to stay there for 5 - 10 minutes.

In either of the ways suggested, the next step is to sprinkle some amount of water, and rub the surface with a plastic scrub. Metal scrubs are also available in the market. It is never advisable to use them as shower doors are either made of glass, plastic or fiberglass and may get damaged by rubbing metal on them. Rub the affected surface well with the scrub, working harder wherever needed. Keep sprinkling water as it will ease the loosening up of the buildup from the surface. When you are done with rubbing, wash the surface with water. The result will be nothing but a clean surface shining like new. If you want, you can make a soap scum cleaning solution with some substances commonly available in homes. They are washing powder, vinegar and baking soda.

Soap scum removal from glass, fiberglass and tiles is a laborious and time-taking job. You have to spend money, time and energy to get rid of it from your shower doors and bathtubs. If this process is so unappealing and unlikeable, then why allow soap scum to build up only. Why not take some precautionary measures to avoid a situation wherein you need to work so hard? There are some such things that can save you from removaing soap scum from fiberglass, glass, or floor if done properly and regularly. Wipe the scum off your tub or shower with a damp cotton cloth every time you get out of it. Make sure that you clean the sides and the bottom of the bathtub and shower enclosures. Apply a layer of furniture wax or polish to the walls of the shower and bathtub. It will keep the soap scum from sticking to it. But do this application work only when the objects in question are new or have been cleaned from soap scum. Follow these two preventive measures and foreclose the soap scum accumulation, and thus its removal forever.
