How to Make a Fairy Costume at Home

Making a fairy costume at home or how to sew a fairy costume is not as tough as climbing the Everest! Okay, on a serious note, if you have a little bit of an aesthetic and dress designing sense, you can easily walk through this fairy endeavor!

Supplies
Here is what you will need to have for coming up with a fairy costume.

  • Girl's dress/frock
  • Artificial flower stems
  • Safety Pins
  • Satin Ribbons
  • Headband and scarf in a coordinating color
  • Hot glue and hot glue gun
  • Tulle in two colors, measuring 1 yard
  • Glitter glue, rhinestones and glow-in-the-dark paint
Now here is the process for making the fairy costume.

Method
The following are the steps to create a costume of a fairy.

Point 1
Start off with getting rid of individual blooms from the artificial flower stems. Also do not forget to remove any other plastic parts from the flowers. Pin the flowers to the hem, skirt and the neckline of the dress. It will be a good idea to pin the flowers in a way that the safety pin or pins remain on the outer part of the garment. This will make it easier to wear. Moreover, you would not get pricked by the pin.

Point 2
Now, using hot glue, fix additional flowers to the middle of the scarf. This will make for the waist sash. Similarly, use hot glue for attaching flowers to the middle section of the headband.

Point 3
Now, this is a vital juncture whether it is about making a fairy costume for adults or kids. It is the time for wings, without which, the fairy costume will not be the quintessential 'fairy' costume! For making the wings, you will have to cut the tulle into pieces which are 36 x 18 inches. Please remember that a fairy costume for a baby will require smaller wings, for which the size can be definitely adjusted. In a stack like arrangement, lay the tulle in alternating colors. Tie with a satin ribbon in the center, where it will be cinched. Now all you have to do is to pin the wings at the back of the dress.

Point 4
We have almost come to the end of the project of making a fairy costume. Here at this juncture, what you have to do is you will need to wrap the end of a large artificial flower stem with the help of the leftover satin ribbon. This will be for your flower fair wand.

Last, but not the least, decorate and embellish the costume by using glitter paint, rhinestones and glow in the dark paint if required. Jazz up the costume full monty!

Well, this was just one way in which you can make a fairy costume. If you check out books and internet for related costume, you will find a number of other ideas for fairy costumes. Till next time. Have fun making a costume!
