Cleaning Wool Carpet

Laying carpets has become a trend these days. The feel of it is just too likable to avoid them. Carpets from wool is like the "in" thing because of its extreme soft fabric and warm texture. Woolen carpets have the advantage of being less toxic and more eco-friendly than the normal one's which are manufactured using n-number of chemicals. So, if you have a woolen carpet at home then you are smart enough and lucky as well!

It's almost every time that your carpet becomes the dumping ground for the dirt and soil particles which enter your home. Since the woolen fibers are so attractive, any and everything gets entangled within. Also, you might just end up getting a dirty stain on it. Then what? You need not worry because there are number of ways by which you can clean your favorite carpet. The best method recommended is vacuuming which is widely used. Along with vacuuming, carpet stain removers do the needful.

Dry Cleaning: This involves use of carpet stain removal powders or granules which you need to spread onto the carpet and keep for sometime. Vacuuming later removes all the dirt as well as the stains. Although, this method is not foolproof. I would suggest you all to go in for the wet vacuuming.

Wet Cleaning: Steam is used in this type of vacuuming. There is this hot water extraction unit which forces hot water in the carpet under high pressure. Later, vacuuming sucks all the dirt particles as well the other micro organisms residing in the fibers. The advantage of using this method lies in the high power vacuum used in this process. This method requires expertise, so it's always better to rent the unit or hire a trained carpet cleaning professional.

We often stain our carpets, mistakenly. The stain might be anything, from food stains generally chocolate stains, sauce stains, or ink stains or blood stains or urine, vomit stains, oily stains of butter or greasy stains, paint stains, etc. And it is our tendency to ignore it because of sheer laziness. But avoid doing so. Removing the stain at the right time is very important for carpet stains. You will always have a hard time removing a dry stain. Cleaning stains, is not a difficult task if you follow the given procedure. Don't forget to vacuum the carpets at the end of the stain removal.

  • For wet stains, blot the stain using a cotton cloth with a good carpet stain remover. Apply onto the stain patch. Use paper towels to soak it. DON'T rub. Remember that you don't want the stain to spread. After the stain has been soaked up, apply water. Blot the water as well. You need to repeat the procedure until the stain is completely removed. One thing you need to keep in mind is that, move from edges to the center of the stain. It's commonsense that this will prevent spreading of the stain.
  • For the drier one's, what you need to do along with the above procedure is scrape the dry stain first so as to make it easy for removal.
  • Most of the stains are removed with the help of wool carpet stain removers of good quality available in the nearby shops or may be absorbent powders or cleaners. But for stains of rust or nail enamel, using rust remover and acetone, respectively, is recommended or you can contact the manufacturing company as well.
  • Homemade wool carpet cleaning process includes cleaning with vinegar or wool detergent and water. It's highly effective so you can go for this one, in case of lighter stains.
