Wireless Internet for Laptops

Imagine you are sitting in a park and suddenly remember that you need to send an urgent email. You have your laptop computer with you and you connect it to a wireless access point (WAP) and access the Internet. Then you send your email. This wouldn't have been possible if there were no wireless Internet.

There are two ways to connect to a wireless Internet service. They are WI-Fi connection and bluetooth connection. Let us assume that all the prerequisites (such as the laptop being present in a WI-Fi zone, or connection with bluetooth device) are in place, and all you have to do is to connect to the Internet. Wireless networking is very easy. You just switch on the Wi-Fi button that has been provided in the laptop for Wi-Fi browsing. Once that is done, the computer will prompt you to connect to the Internet. Assuming that you've already bought the AirCard and placed it in its slot, you can simply start browsing through the fascinating virtual world of the Internet.

An interesting fact about Wi-Fi networking is that you can create a network between similar wireless devices. This is especially easy in Wi-Fi compatible laptops. Consider a situation where you and your friend both have Wi-Fi laptops, and there is some data you want to exchange. Traditional networking architecture demands that you have a wireless router. But the beauty of Wi-Fi networking technology is that you can set up a network between you and your friend's laptop, and share all the data you want.

Connection through bluetooth is also very easy. Generally, you require a bluetooth device for the older laptops. All the modern laptops come equipped with internal bluetooth hardware. To connect to wireless Internet through bluetooth, your mobile phone should be GPRS or 3G technology compatible. Follow the procedure mentioned below for Internet connection through a bluetooth device.

  1. Activate Internet services from your service provider.
  2. Install drivers for bluetooth modem device (typically of the mobile phone).
  3. Follow the steps given for setting the username and password (This will set up the connection and place an icon on the desktop).
  4. Switch on the bluetooth of both the devices (laptop and mobile phone).
  5. Double click on the icon that was just placed on the desktop and start browsing.
Broadband Wireless Internet

Broadband Internet connection is typically preferred by any user as it provides better speed for Internet browsing. Broadband wireless Internet is synonymous with Wi-Fi technology. Wherever you find a WI-FI hot spot, its backbone is always broadband Internet. Until the invention of 3G phones, Internet speed on mobile phones was very slow. 3G has the promise of changing the entire face of broadband technology. Just imagine browsing at speeds of more than 2MB per second. To give you a measure of the speed, 3G enables you to watch high quality videos on the Internet.

It is amazing to see how technology changes and the rate at which it changes. There may come a time when you may be able to browse using mobile wireless Internet for laptops anywhere in the world.
