In case, you are unable to do it on your own, you can always seek professional help to get the laptop screen replaced.
Laptop Screen Replacement Instructions
The laptop screen may get damaged if it is dropped down accidentally or if someone sits on the laptop by mistake. Gripping the laptop too tightly may also lead to some laptop screen problems. Replacing laptop screen is a must to make your laptop function again. Here are some simple instructions to replace a laptop screen, that will help you in addressing the problem.
- The first step to replace the laptop screen is to identify the problem area. The laptop screen may be damaged if your drop the laptop or if something falls on it with force. To check for the exact problem, you may be required to connect the laptop to an external monitor, through the VGA-out port. If you have a flickering laptop screen, which may shut down automatically on its own after sometime, then there may be a problem with the inverter. The appearance of lines may be evident of the problem in the screen, following which you may have to replace it.
- After you have identified the problem, it's time to get to the task of replacing the laptop screen. You can purchase the necessary paraphernalia from any computer or laptop hardware store. If your laptop still has the warranty period, then you can ask for a replacement from the company itself. Before dismantling the screen, make sure that power brick has been disconnected and the battery is removed.
- To remove the cracked laptop screen, you may require a small Philip's screwdriver, a flat head screwdriver and a knife. The screw covers are located on the bezel or surrounding frame of the LCD. They cover the screws and since they are made of rubber, they can be easily pried with the help of the knife or flat head screwdriver.
- Once the covers are removed, with the help of a Philip's screwdriver, unscrew the screws which attach the frame to the screen. Place the screws in a safe place so that they are not misplaced. After removing the frame, pull the screen away from the bezel, with a gentle tug. Take proper care, in case you are removing a broken laptop screen.
- The actual screen, which can be seen as surrounded by a metal frame, is exposed, after dismantling the bezel. Slightly tilt the screen so that it dislodges itself from the frame exposing two wires, one resembling a ribbon. Disconnect both the wires, the video cable and power cable, from behind the screen.
- Remove the old screen from its shell and replace it with the new one. Connect the wires and secure all the screws in place so that the screen is assembled again. Reconnect the power brick and the battery, and switch on your laptop to check if you have done everything correctly and that there are no problems in the display. The task of laptop screen replacement is now complete.
