Cappuccino Calories
Everyone loves and needs their cup of coffee during the day. It is the temporary boost in energy that the cuppa gives which the people cannot resist! Often I have experienced this craving where the person sits next to me brings a steaming cup full of the goods, and the whiff of it enters my unsuspecting nostrils. And the next thing I remember finding myself next to the coffee machine with a cup of hot coffee and a wide smile on my face.
Calorie Counting in a Cappuccino
While on a weight loss diet, a lot of people cut down on high-calorie, fried and sugary items. Why? Because consuming such foods will result in the body having more calories than what it needs. When the body has more calories than what is required for the daily bodily processes, i.e. the calories consumed are higher than the ones burnt, then the fat reserves in the body will increase and the whole dieting exercise goes for a toss. Hence, the intake of certain types of food, specifically sugary, fatty and fried foods is kept well under control by the person who is on a diet.
But while a keen eye is kept on these food items, a couple of them manage to slip in unsuspecting, breaking our guard. Things like coffee to be precise. While we are too busy resisting the allure of the pizzas and the burgers, we consume copious amounts of our cappuccino daily, unaware of what we're taking in.
The number of calories in a cappuccino depend largely on two things: The amount of sugar and the type of milk. If the milk is non-fat and the sugar content is lesser, then the cappuccino will have lesser calories. If the milk is not non-fat and has a higher sugar content, then it will have more calories.
While it is hard to exactly estimate all of this, due to variation in the milk and sugar quantities, we can safely assume that you stand to gain anywhere from 75-150 calories with each cup.
Cappuccino vs Latte vs Espresso?
We all know that a cappuccino is a type of coffee which has more milk than an espresso, but less than what you have in a latte. A latte has a much lighter flavor as the coffee is diluted with a liberal amount of milk. An espresso is one small and hard shot of coffee, that some claim to be more effective than a latte as it is undiluted (like a neat shot of alcohol!). A cappuccino is kind of between both these, seemingly extreme forms of coffee. As the milk content in it is less than that in a latte, it will have lower calories than the latte. Conversely, as the cappuccino has a higher quantity of milk in it than in the espresso, it has more calories.
So basically, if you're on a weight loss diet, and a regular latte consumer, then maybe you should change to cappuccino, while a cappuccino consumer may choose to change to espresso. The change should be slow, so that you can ease yourself into consuming something with a lower milk content. Needless to say, if you dump a lot of sugar in your espresso, then you've obviously lost the plot.
So now you by now I'm sure you are aware how much you must be gaining in regards to a cappuccino vs latte vs espresso. While coffee gives our system the much-needed boost, it is important to keep the consumption in check.
