Home Gym Ideas

When we think of fitness or losing that extra bit, we always tend to head towards a local gym or maybe the most popular one recommended by people around us. I believe instead, creating a one at your own home is a better idea. If the leisure is at your own place, what else can you ask for? If you do not have the spatial problem, you can always go for this option. Obviously, investment would be the other matter of concern, but only initially, later, you will enjoy your own freedom and comfort. It is up to yourself, how to give it the feel of a commercial gym.

Any gym would always need to be spacious so as to occupy all the exercise equipment; at least the basic one's. If, in case, you have an extra room at home, which is big enough, make sure it is your gym room. The advantage being, you can use it whenever you want to and for a good reason; staying fit! For people who do not have space problem can always create a very luxurious gym at home, which would be a replica of the local gym, if not better!

What if you do not have that extra room? Basements of our homeplace are generally left unused. Basement gym would solve your problem if you have space limit and instead, provide you ample space to set up a gym.

Designing Your Own Gym

  • Make sure that you have the basic equipment of good quality for instance, weights, dumbbells, treadmill, etc. according to your workout regime. Arrange them according to their sizes. See to it that you have sufficient space to exercise in the room.
  • We always want to decorate or style our own room, so that we can enjoy staying there. There are various ways to give your gym the "commercial look". It firstly starts off with the look of the room which obviously means the color. Using colors which are vibrant like magenta or may be red or may be something like orange or banana yellow hue, will make the gym look bright, aggressive and pleasant. This will help boost your stamina and determination to exercise. Albeit, avoid overdoing it. Cool colors like the shades of blues, greens, purples will give your gym a very calm and quiet look, which you can apply if your exercise is totally yoga based. Make sure your ceiling is white, to give the room a wider and bigger look. Make use of neutral colors like blacks or whites against the brighter one's, if required. Let your gym room look extremely lively and energetic, and thus avoid using dull shades of browns or pinks or creams.
  • Along with colors, lighting of the room should also be equally good. Use full spectrum daylight bulbs which are bright enough and help energize the room.
  • Making use of rubber floor mats or maybe cushions will help you for yoga, meditation and floor exercises.
  • You can hang or put up posters of your favorite celebs or athletes with hot bods or whom you look up to while doing workouts. It will help increase your self-confidence and make you work harder.
  • Also putting up charts depicting BMI (Body Mass Index), Weight to height ratio, Balanced diet can add to your self-confidence.
  • A gym is totally incomplete without mirrors; bigger one's that too. "How many inches have I reduced?" or "Do I have a perfect figure or physique?" are the common questions which are always on our mind after exercising. Doing exercises in front of mirrors is a trend which everyone mostly follow. It's not taught; it's just within us!!
  • You better not forget to wear the gym clothing as in track pants, shorts, tees and obviously good sport shoes which will help doing exercise with ease and you would not end up in some injury or sprain.
  • Playing some of your favorite music or may be putting on T.V. always adds to your zeal. You can play any sort of music; may be something in relation to the exercises you are doing.
  • You can also have some potted flowering plants in your gym room to give it a fresh and a colorful look.
For the one's who do not find the home gym economical or find it very luxurious, can opt for affordable ones. The gym room need not be a big room always; a smaller room can do, even if you are able to accommodate the basic stuff in it. Thus the space problem is solved. Also, you can always design the interiors according to your own wish. If you really want to work out and are willing to adjust and compromise on wall colors and cushions or may be music, no one can stop you. Ask your friends or relatives as to start the gym in collaboration, so that the cost of the equipment gets divided equally. If the equipment are not affordable, you can always substitute them with exercises like sit-ups, jogging, walking, push-ups, high jumps which are equally good. Otherwise, go in for yoga exercises which are relatively simpler yet very effective, maybe something like Surya-namaskar or Pranayaam... These are just two of the many.

Building a home gym is not a difficult task. To sum it up, I would say that gym whether a small one or luxurious one, whether home gym or local, is a GYM as long as you exercise there and enjoy doing the same. How and where to exercise is your own choice. Go for it people.
