Habanero Recipes


Habanero chili or capsicum chinense is a species of chili peppers that is extremely spicy and hot. They are available in colors like green, red, white, salmon and chocolate are and available in different varieties as well. These chili peppers originated from Havana and are now grown in a few parts of California, Costa Rica and Texas. Various food recipes can be prepared using habanero peppers, but it is only for those who can relish and enjoy spicy food. Habanero sauce and salsa recipes are two of the most popular and most relished habanero recipes.

Habanero Salsa

Ingredients
2 tbsp. olive oil
2 large habanero chilies
8 garlic cloves - peeled, and coarsely chopped
1 cups water
tsp. salt
tsp. sugar
juice of 1 lemon
juice from 2 limes
tsp. turmeric
tsp. garlic powder
tsp. dry mustard powder
3 large carrots - stemmed, peeled and coarsely chopped
tsp. onion powder

Method
Begin with heating the oil in a large pan. Saut the chilies, garlic and carrots for around 15 minutes, then add the water, sugar, turmeric, vinegar, garlic powder, mustard powder, onion powder and salt to this. Stir well until all the ingredients have mixed together. Let it boil slowly and then lower the heat and simmer for about 40 minutes. Remove it from heat, allow it to cool and then add the lemon juice and lime to it. Pour this mixture into a food processor and process until it turns a little thick. Serve when it cools down thoroughly.

Peach Habanero Salsa

Ingredients
3 large ripe peaches
tsp. ground cloves
habanero chile, seeded
2 tbsp. finely chopped red onion
Juice of 1 lime
Salt
1 tbsp. light brown sugar
tsp. ground cinnamon

Method
Peel or remove the skins and chop the peaches. Remove the seeds and finely chop the habanero peppers. Then, add all the ingredients to a large mixing bowl and mix them thoroughly. Then place the bowl in the refrigerator for at least two hours prior to using the salsa.

Habanero Sauce

Ingredients
3 plum tomatoes
1 to 3 fresh habanero chilies
2 garlic cloves
cup water
Juice of one orange
Juice of one grapefruit
Salt
Pepper

Method
Heat an iron skillet over low heat and once it has heated up, add the garlic, tomatoes and chilies. Saut for about 20 minutes until they turn golden brown and then put the tomatoes into a blender. Add the garlic and chilies also into the blender along with the water, grapefruit juice and orange juice. Puree it until it turns smooth and then season it with salt and pepper.

Habanero Hot Sauce

Ingredients
12 fresh habanero chilies
1 mango, peeled
1 cup yellow mustard
cup brown sugar
cup white vinegar
1 tbsp. chili powder
1 tbsp. curry powder
1 tbsp. ground cumin
salt and pepper to taste

Method
Add all the ingredients into a food processor and puree it into a fine paste. Heat a saucepan on medium heat, add the paste to it and simmer for around 5 minutes. Serve when this cools down completely.

Habanero Mango and Pineapple Jam

Ingredients
16 ounces frozen pineapple, cut into chunk
24 ounces frozen mangoes, cut into chunks
4 habanero peppers, halved, seeded and stemmed
cup cider vinegar
4 cups white sugar
3 ounces liquid pectin

Method
Place a pot over medium high heat, add the fruits and the vinegar and simmer for about 10 minutes. Mash the fruits once they start softening, then add the sugar and keep stirring for it to get dissolved. Then, add the pectin and habanero peppers and stir well to bring to a boil. Remove the chili halves from the mixture and retain just two of them. Chop these two chili halves into thin long strips and add it back to the mixture in the pot. Then transfer the mixture into jam cans and process in hot water for about 10 minutes.
