Homemade Olive Oil Hair Conditioner
The use of natural products on the skin and hair is advantageous over commercially available skin and hair care products. The reason being, these natural products do not contain any harsh chemicals that may damage the hair or skin. Hair gets damaged easily due to the exposure to pollution, harsh chemicals and harmful rays of the sun. To minimize the damage, beauticians around the world recommend the use of conditioners. Though there are a number of conditioners available in the market, using olive oil and other natural ingredients is considered to be the best for the health of the hair. You can make a number of homemade hair conditioners using different ingredients like olive oil, egg yolk, plain yogurt, and other essential oils. Homemade olive oil hair conditioner can be made more enriching with the use of several other ingredients like coconut milk, mayo and honey or even with plain lukewarm water, etc.
Extra virgin olive oil for hair is excellent for deep conditioning. There are a number of benefits of using olive oil for hair. This oil strengthens the roots and reduces split ends. It also triggers hair follicles for the growth of new hair, so that you have thicker mane. Here is a recipe for making olive oil hair conditioner at home.
For Oily Hair
While conditioning oily hair, you must make sure that the hair does not become too oily. You can adjust the amount of olive oil in your homemade conditioner, so that your hair gets conditioned without appearing greasy.
Things Required
- Olive oil, cup
- Warm water, cup
- Aloe vera gel, cup
- Coconut milk, essential oil of your choice, 4 to 5 drops
Take a medium-sized bowl and mix the coconut milk, olive oil, aloe vera gel and warm water. Add four to five drops of essential oil to this mixture. Now blend these ingredients together and test for the texture. If the mixture appears to be too thin, you can add two egg whites to it to get the desired consistency.
For Dry to Normal Hair
Dry hair is more prone to breakage and split ends. Even normal hair needs its dose of conditioning to keep it healthy. Olive oil works great, when it comes to manage dry hair and also helps lock moisture in the scalp. Here is a recipe for olive oil conditioner, that can be used on both dry as well as normal hair
Things Required
- Olive oil, cup
- Jojoba oil, cup
- Avocado,
- Honey, two to three tablespoons
- Vitamin E oil, cup
Blend the avocado with honey to form a smooth mixture. Now add the olive oil, vitamin E oil and jojoba oil to this mixture and blend thoroughly. If you find that the mixture is too thick, then you can add a few tablespoons of milk, to make it thinner.
How to Use Olive Oil Hair Conditioner
When used on hair, olive oil effectively deals with two of the major problems - dandruff and dry scalp. Using olive oil as a hair conditioner is considered to be a good option since it also conditions the hair deeply. Here is a method on how to use olive oil as a conditioner.
- Take half a cup of olive oil and add the same amount of warm water to it. You can also add a few drops of lavender, lemon, orange or myrrh essential oil for fragrance. Mix the contents together properly.
- Shampoo your hair thoroughly and massage the conditioner into the scalp with the help of your fingertips. Make sure that the olive oil conditioner has been applied evenly to the scalp.
- After the scalp has been covered, you can turn your attention to the hair tips. Apply thoroughly on the hair shaft starting from the root to tip.
- Tie your hair into a bun and cover your hear with a shower cap. Let the conditioner stay on your hair for about 10 to 15 minutes, so that the oil seeps in deeper. You can even try wrapping a hot towel around your head for about 15 minutes.
- Rinse the hair thoroughly with warm water to wash off the oil from the hair. If you find your hair too oily after this treatment, then use a mild shampoo to rinse your hair.
- Blow dry your hair properly and set it according to the style you wish, you will discover that your hair is more manageable and soft to touch. You can try this remedy twice a week for a smoother silkier hair.
