Yanking or pulling your hair is not a very good idea, even if you have applied the hair balm.
Using the Shampoo: Wash your hair with shampoo once a week. Use a shampoo suitable for your hair type. After you shampoo (preferably with lukewarm water) use a restorative or leave-in conditioner for the protection of your hair from styling and heating products.
Moisturizing Black Hair: For moisturizing your hair, use natural oils and herbal scalp and hair moisturizers. Grab hold of those hair care products which have tea tree oil. To reap benefits of this, apply this directly to the scalp from root to tip. Run a wide-toothed comb through your hair after applying the moisturizer. Therefore, the following section will focus on black hair care guide for Afro-Americans, who have a distinct type of hair. African-American hair is prone to being fragile and it shrinks considerably when dry. In addition to this it has more elasticity.
How to Care for African-American Hair
Washing: While washing your hair, massage your scalp gently and as far as possible avoid pulling your hair strands. Being wet is the most vulnerable situation your hair could be and this is especially the case with Afro-American hair. Hence, you have to be very careful. Abstain from rubbing the hair on the towel after you are done washing. It would be better to just dab the excess water in your hair.
Drying: Prior to blow drying your hair, apply a moisturizer to the loosen cuticles of your hair. Use a large toothed comb to disentangle your hair after that. The strokes should preferably begin from ends, going towards the scalp. This will prevent you from tugging and pulling at your hair. Begin blow drying your hair from the bottom up till the top of your head. After that, expose your hair to a blast of cold air which will close the cuticles of each strand. This would help your hair retain the moisture. This is one of the very important daily hair care tips for healthy hair.
Weaving and Braiding: Well, weaves which are sewn are better than glued in weaves. If you go to an experienced stylist and take all the necessary hair care precautions, then it is fine. For retaining the style and keeping your weaves tight, it is recommended that you visit the stylist every 2 or three weeks.
Myths about African-American Hair: All said and done, there are a few myths associated with African-American hair, which need to be kept in mind while caring for your black hair. The first misconception is that this type of hair does not grow long. It is prone to breakage and dryness, that is why it seems so. The other one is that over conditioning your hair is fine. But it is not so. Moisturizing in excess can make your hair brittle and cause them to eventually break. So avoid that.
