Homemade Body Spray
Are you one of those people who have spent thousands of dollars trying to find that perfect scent which was so 'YOU'? Body sprays are a great way to start your day, as they rejuvenate your mood with their fresh smell, while calming your mind. Although there are many expensive perfumes and body sprays available in the market, finding that ultimate scent that makes your heart soar, can make a real dent in your wallet. Moreover these perfumes do not seem to last that long as well, with the scent dissipating within a few hours. Not to mention what the harsh chemicals in these commercial body sprays, end up doing to your skin. A great way of combating these problems is to use homemade body sprays. Contrary to popular belief it is extremely easy to make your own body spray, in the comfort of your home. By using simple everyday ingredients such as water, perfumes, colognes and various essential oils, making your very own luxuriously scented body spray is an extremely rewarding and a real fun endeavor. You not only save on your precious resources with this homemade solution, but also have the choice to alter the ingredients to make a fragrance that is uniquely you.
Recipes To Make Your Own Body Spray
The first step in the process, is to find the essential oils that you would want to use for the spray. There are several choices, like lavender and lemongrass, but personally, I like to use food flavoring extracts, like vanilla and citrus. Not only are they cheap and readily available, but they also smell heavenly. The other ingredients that you need are distilled water, glycerin, rubbing alcohol or vodka, and a bottle to house your body spray. There are various interesting spray bottles available in the market, for you to use. If you are in an extra creative mood then you can decorate the bottles with special labels, for embellishing your homemade creation. Once you have amassed all the ingredients and have even found the storage for it, it is time to create your very own perfumed masterpiece.
Recipe 1
This is a simple method of making a body spray. Just add a few drops of the essential oils to the distilled water and shake well. Now spray a small amount to your wrist, to check if you need to add more fragrance. Adding glycerin to the mixture makes it last longer and acts as a great moisturizer for your skin. Store this bottle of homemade spray at room temperature, preferably protecting it from the sunlight.
Recipe 2
Take the edge off the summer heat, with this soothing summer citrus body spray, which brings you in a fresh and light mood.
Ingredients
- 2 cups distilled water
- 3 tablespoons vodka
- 1 tablespoon of each: finely chopped orange and lemon peel
- 5 drops lemon fragrance oil
- 10 drops orange essential/fragrance oil
Place the fruit peels in a jar filled with vodka, for a week. Now strain the liquid and add the essential fragrance oils and water to this strained liquid. Let the mixture stand for two weeks in a cool, dark area.
Recipe 3
If you prefer using witch hazel, then this body spray is perfect for both men and women. It keeps you fresh all day long and uplifts your mood.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon witch hazel
- A total of 10 drops of essential oil: lemon and cucumber
- 8 oz. of distilled water
Combine all the ingredients and store it in a bottle, for that great after shower body spray. If it irritates your skin, then you could avoid using lemon oil in the mixture.
You can also choose to make your own essential oils for the sprays. Remember to shake the bottles before using these homemade body sprays, and spray just a light mist onto the body. You can also experiment with your own scent combinations when you make your own body spray, till you find a scent that you would absolutely love. So if you prefer a relaxing body spray, use essential oils of sandalwood or lavender. For a peppy, uplifting smell, use citrus, peppermint and rose oils in your body spray. These sprays are an amazing addition to gift baskets for your friends and loved ones. So go ahead and make your own spray today!
